I’ve never had an OTA update do it to me, but it’s possible.

Definitly have had an FDRS update do it - and that’s what a dealer will often do if you go in for many services

Yes, it will wipe the tune. I've always wondered how Ford was going to support their client base when this happens. I assume that you can just reflash the tune on it, but it will revert the PCM to the previous software strategy.

In theory they can update the flash file on the module, but that has to be done manually.

So if there is a major update / OTA would
put you back to stock, you would need to update and then re-install procal separately to get the new software strategy with the tune.

But yeah - nothing would tell you to do that, and no notification that they just wiped your tune or that an update to the tune is available or required. Or any guarantee that they would provide a strategy update to the tune at all. It’s all just possible to so. I agree - very poorly implemented. But most things dealing with Ford Software are…

Do you know when is the last time they pushed a PCM update?
I saw some people getting one a few weeks ago. PCM updates OTA are usually pretty rare though.

100% with you on every point. Both of my daily driver Fords are tuned with Livernois, so if it gets wiped, I upload my new stock tune to them via the device and within a few days, they send me an updated tune at no cost. I highly doubt Ford's process will be anywhere near that quick and easy.

Funny enough, we just had a call with a customer with a Raptor that has the procal and did an OTA, truck won't start. Having it towed in as we speak. May be a coincidence but pretty random.

It could be that the OTA failed to get the truck out of inhibit mode. Most of the time, that's what it is when a vehicle won't start after an update. There will be a very particular message on the screen when this happens, but I don't remember the verbiage. If you have PTS access, you can see that in the OTA dashboard. You would need FDRS to run the service procedure in the BCM to release it from inhibit mode.

We'll see what it says when it comes in. I don't have the VIN or I'd run it in PTS, just what I heard one of the BDC agents saying asking if we could send our mobile lube tech out to it.

Lmk.....just curious really. I wish FORScan would add the service procedure to release the inhibit lock to their bag of tricks. I emailed the devs about it a while back ago, but they didn't respond.
