I would keep in mind that the swing gate is only rated at 133 lbs. total capacity

Agreed! Def need beefier, sleeved straps at that price.

I'm looking at those tiny straps running over the edge of those slots and seeing a high rate of wear on a thin strap. The slot obviously fits a beefier strap. For that kind of money they should provide it. At a minimum I'd put rubber tubing on that slot. Outside edge too.

I have the Bad Ass Tents version which is generic vs Bronco specific. I had to modify it so it would clear the 3rd brake light (which I eventually replaced with a setup from SDHQ that incorporates a Baja Designs 3rd brake light/backup light and 2 Baja Designs chase lights. If I had to do it again I would go with American Adventure Labā€™s version as the side supports offer more support for weight distribution and itā€™s not as deep. The Bad Ass one sticks out quite a lot. Be mindful of the weight of whatever you carry. I upgraded my tire carrier with one from Hammer Built, which can support more weight than the stock one on the Braptor. You definitely donā€™t want to warp those hinges or the sheet metal on the back swing door.

This is an interesting solution if you don't want to block your rear view but want to strap something to your tire. It is listed under their Bronco parts but is labeled for Toyota so must be universal.

That is interesting and would be a good add-on, but won't work for what I need right now.

They also have a slightly smaller version of the rack: https://americanadventurelab.com/product/mass-spare-tire-platform-mini/

I'm not concerned with blocking the rear window since there's a sunshade in it anyway.

I appreciate the comments and additional products, keep the coming.

So far, I'm liking the AAL MASS Mini rack. Light and just enough room for what I need.

As far as weight, this is only going to hold a dry bag or 2 with clothes and such. I estimate 20-30 pounds at most. I'm not going to be hanging my mother-in-law off it...she can walk!

The rack won't be living on it full time, just for when I need some extra room.

I use the AAL set-up w/ ROAM case for overlanding and then just lift it off when rock-crawling (and then further remove the spare when things get really spicy). It has worked flawlessly even when really really getting after it.

Apologies that the first pic is before we upgraded the suspension but wanted to show the full set-up for remote trails.

If you have any questions regarding our rack please let us know! Ours weighs 30 lbs, is made of steel, and the capacity is really more dependent on your tailgate capacity than anything else. Thanks for your interest in our product!
Where are these made?

Is there any experience with the various spare tire mounted cargo carriers out there?

I'm just looking for something to carry some lightweight items inside waterproof roll-top bags on occasion for longer trips.

I'm looking at:

JCR Offroad Spare Tire Utility Basket.
https://www.jcroffroad.com/product/UNI-STB.html

Price, shipped: $381.65
Dimensions: 43"x13"
Weight: 25lbs
COO: Portage, MI, USA

Turn Offroad Universal Spare Tire Cargo Rack
https://turnoffroad.com/collections...e-tire-storage-rack-offroad-ice-chest-carrier

Price, shipped: $299.00
Dimensions: 42"x14"
Weight: Unknown
COO: Unknown

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Any experience with either or both of these? I lean towards the JCR, but an open to all options, including others I'm not aware of.

Thanks!

I noticed that question didnā€™t get answered in their earlier reply, so Iā€™m glad you asked. If thereā€™s no response, you know the answer.

I just picked up the AAL Spare tire mount and molle panels for a steal of a deal. Found someone local selling the system brand new in box. Setup he sold me retailed for like $800 shipped. I grabbed it for $250.

If you're looking to carry a Roam/Pelican case on the back then AAL is the way to go. The photo that sold me was this one.
