So we are leaving Sunday for a trip and I didn’t have time to buy a rear table. Plus I’m not a fan of most of them. Why would they have holes for drinks?
So I built this table for about $25.
I cut to boards at the sizes I wanted.
I picked up a 4’ stick of aluminum C channel and mounted underneath. Drilled holes for screws and one side bigger to get screwdriver through.
I had some stainless hinges in my shop. But they can be picked up for about $5 a set. I used some machine screws through the wood and self tapping screws in the door. If this table stays, I’ll replace the screws with RevNuts.
To hook up cables I took 2 L brackets and bolted them under the plastic cover. Then trimmed the cover. Drilled holes for cable in board and made cables. L bracket and stainless cables about $5.
Plus I added the screw and nut to hold the table up when folded. Had plan to cut extra off but this just ended up being an easy way to hold table up.
You can also see how I had to cut a layer off of the plywood. Ugly on bottom but top looks just fine.
I used scrap wood. Lighter color is from a shelf and the darker is just plywood. I sanded a little, stained and then clear coated it.
It’s far from perfect but for a few hours and $25, it’s going to work great for now.
Can’t wait to setup camp and tell the wife, “Now make me a sandwich!”
