that ghost pearl is to die for.

I'm in a similar position about driving my bronco for a while before wrapping it.... but I don't hate black I just like the contrast between the black roof and white body. I think I'm going to make a few calls and see what the cost of wrapping might be - it'll take so long to get my bronco I could probably save up the extra money with spare change lol.
IKR?! Love love love all of the possibilities! I actually really like the idea you have with the black top, white body, especially in that ghost pearl! I have a black car now and really the only reason I hate it is because it shows dirt and scratches so easily and no matter how I wash it, it always looks dirty. Given the info from @LikeToTurnLeft it sounds like wraps are a little bit more maintenance but the pay off is well worth it.

I've got a chunk of money sitting in crypto right now that I'm risking and hoping the volatility works in my favor in a big way and will give me a nice down payment or maybe even a wrap job! Sounds like they can get pretty expensive....

Nope. It’s self healing. So scratches will go away with heat, ie sitting outside in the sun. PPF is a lot thicker then vinyl. So the durability is far superior.
How does vinyl react to the branch pin-stripe effect?

I think there are three options by the sounds of it…
- Add nothing and get scratches in the paint repaired professionally periodically (every few years or before selling)
- Vinyl wrap and replace periodically and remove before selling
- PPF wrap and not worry much about maintaining it.

What is the most economical if you own for 5-10 years?

Wraps can be very expensive. I would expect a Bronco wrap to be in the $3k-$4k range for a complete wrap.

I wrapped just the hood of my mustang with a big fire dragon. The background of the hood image was black and the rest of the car was silver. Didn't match, but looked dope and cost under $200

You are like my new favorite person on here.
So much good advice, real advice. Humble, respectful approach.
Glad you are on the forum, and wish you had been here longer!!
Hahah. Thanks.
Long time lurker. Just signed up the other day to post a pic of our new license plate for the Bronco we don’t have yet. 😂 Saw something about wraps on the first page that refreshers and clicked on it. Saw a bunch of miss information and questions. And here we are.

It’ll scratch it. But kind of. Vinyl is soft and can absorb a bit. And does have a tiny bit of self healing like PPF. I’d much rather lightly scratch my wrap then my paint. Obviously there’s extremes to both. A big nasty pointy stick that’s sticking out into the trail and you drag it down the side of your car and let it dig in will tear the wrap. But it could also happen to PPF. There’s limits. But overall wraps are pretty durable. And yes. If you really screw up your wrap. You can replace individual panels. Though there will/could be a color shift between new and old if a lot of time has gone by.

As for economicical. That’s a tough one. PPF is just clear. So your Bronco will still be the same color after it’s applied. Vinyl
Is for new colors. I’ll have my Bronco 5-10 years and I’m wrapping. But that’s what I do and I love to do mew colors. Someone else might absolutely love Area 51 and want to protect it then spend the money and cover the entire thing in PPF. So as for economical, it really depends on what you want to do with colors. IMHO If I absolutely loved a factory color I’d cover the entire thing in PPF.
Hope that helps.

We were thinking about having our Bronco wrapped in a bold, bright orange. The estimate we received for our 4-door was $8K

When we were thinking this, we debated changing our Velocity Blue order to Black. Right now, we're thinking to keep the Velocity Blue and just have PPF applied to the front end and rocker panels.

I can do a lot of things with $8K.
$8k is ridiculous for a full wrap. Should be closer to $3-$4k. If you’re in love with bright orange. Then black or even dark blue would work. (I’d do black). Also, for about $8k you should be able to PPF the entire thing. Protecting your paint completely.

So I've just tumbled down the rabbit hole on rvinyl.com and have found so many colors that my brain can't handle the excitement. Most of the colors I am gravitating to are lighter like the ghost pearl or have hues of blue and teal like amethyst shift. My order is currently for Velocity Blue. If I even want to consider these I should switch to black? Even if I decide to go with a wrap with blue in it? I don't plan on wrapping it right away so I still want to drive my Bronco in a color I like until I'm ready and I can't stand black.

Thanks for all your input! Very informative for us wrapping novices!

😂😂😂 And now you know why I buy my cars black. All those colors at my fingertips. But the best part is I know how to install them. The stuff that has hues of blue that mentioned are in the same family as the VB paint, so it won’t be that bad to install a wrap in those colors. So keep your VB and enjoy it. Then when your sick of it, pick a color and wrap it!

which brand(s) of PPF are good? And best place(s) to order? I'm kind of tempted to try this myself on the hood and door sills or what they are called, if the film itself isn't too expensive. I love my color, just would like to protect the most vulnerable to flying rocks and dirty shoes areas. No need to wrap the entire vehicle.
Clear coat on my 18 year old Taco is starting to fail and I'll have to get that fixed, but very little damage otherwise, just some chips from rocks on the front of the hood. Those I'd like to prevent.

Not so concerned about trail damage, just part of the game. I'm not gonna spend 1-2k on protecting all the paint, seems overkill and cheaper to fix a real bad damage if it ever happens. Knock on wood...

My installer is doing mine for less than $3k
His work is crazy good and I am guessing my price is due to location more than anything else.
I imagine in say, Chicago or some other large city it would be more.

I’d like to add that every vinyl/clear bra also have varying lifespans depending on the brand and versions. If your ultimate goal is to protect the paint, check with your installer because if you leave it on too long, it would be hard to come off and might even damage the paint. We’re talking years not months but just a heads up.

Xpel is the best out there. I would NOT attempt the install yourself. You will absolutely regret it. PPF is expensive. It’ll end up in the trash can and you’ll have wasted your money. I’ve been wrapping cars for allot 20 years and I wouldn’t attempt a full hood of PPF. I don’t even have the correct tools for it. Take it to a pro. It’ll be cheaper in the long run. Look better. And cost you less.
