Can you convert the marine grade vinyl seats in a 4-door to cloth? These seats are way to hot for summer in my neck of the woods (socal). I found some cloth takeoffs on ebay...is it a simple swap?

Update: I found a post that states that you need new seatback foams. The cost looks prohibitive...around $400 each. Anyone got any other ideas? Seems like an awful lot for some foam pads.

Yup you can swap them over.

I wouldn't exactly call it simple. It's a fairly tedious process, and if it's your first time installing car seat covers it'll probably take several hours to be honest. But very possible for someone looking to DIY, and the only real "special" tool you need is hog ring pliers.

What I'd do search YouTube for a how-to on how to install Katzkins leather seats in a Bronco. There's a handful out there, and the process will be similar.

The cloth seats have a different foam backing for the upper (at least that was the case). It's by no means a simple install, but doable, according to the guy's who got Katzskins. Make certain that the Ebay ones don't have the connecting loops cut off, lots do.

Still is the case. The OEM cloth seat covers should still fit as the width of the two foam backs are the same, but it will likely look wonky.

Worth a try as long as the OP has the time. But more likely the correct seat back foam will need to be bought.

If you have manual (not power or heated) cheap seats and yours are in good shape I would swap you - cloth gray here

I am in Texas and the Marine Grade Vinyl feels like seating on a hot skillet. I thought about doing the same, or upgrading to Katzkin, but decided to try something cheaper. Amazon has these covers and originally I ordered two to try them in the front. They stay put very well, are cleanable and offer some cushion (placebo effect after 2 hours of driving). I ordered 2 more for the back. The seats are much better now and I can wash the covers as needed with minimal effort.

I bought covers from Shear Comfort I had them in my F150 they are Cordura and waterproof and fit like a glove. I actually haven’t had time to put them on yet but I understand your dilemma especially when you take the front panels off. I love the washout floor but the seats were just too hot in the summer here in Tennessee

Get sheepskin seat covers or those beaded things that cabbies use.

If they can ride around all day in a place like NYC without the A/C running, you’ll be fine.
