Why is the passenger side mirror missing the top left corner. The driver side is rectangle. Had my 2022 OBX for almost a year and just noticed it. Wow no symmetry. Any thoughts on why.

You didn't notice because that corner is ( or would be if it was there )
hidden by the a-pillar when your driving, its cut off to follow that line

It’s been touched on a few times here. Rumor has it that no portion of the mirrors can be obstructed. The Passenger A Pillar would block the upper inside most corner. Rather than move the mirrors rearward, or inward, it was easiest to notch the corner off (not that it is useful anyways)

I know, I can't unseen it either, Headsong. It's funny and I don't know why, but it really bugs me out. No symmetry.

My theory is that the right side is missing that corner for snorkel clearance.

Maybe improved aerodynamics:) Not sure why but you can't see the top left corner from the drivers seat, probably why you haven't noticed. My '22 Black Diamond doesn't have the side sensors and has a nice convex mirror in the upper outer corner of both mirrors which I really have grown to like.

The real reason: Auto OEMs design most side mirrors asymmetrically from a top down view so that the front view is even width. The passenger's mirror is typically at a different angle than the driver's mirror. Simple trig.

I used to design the assembly, calibration, and test equipment for a few major OEMs on their mirror lines. All jokes aside, you can't hit the "mirror" button on anything in CAD when dealing with mirrors. They're almost always unique LH vs RH for that reason, which adds a lot to the engineering hours and therefore cost to end consumer. That's right, you pay extra for an aesthetic most people have never even considered (just one more reason why I despise modern engineering/design). Plus, the internals are often different too, down to the brackets, actuator, light markers, puddle lamp placement, and any other electronic peripherals (GPS, GSM, etc, depends on brand). It's why a side mirror isn't $150 anymore.
