I exclusively use Costco premium (93) unless I'm traveling or not near a warehouse. In those cases I will use whatever octane Shell V-Power comes in at that location. I also make sure I stop at a busy gas station so the fuel is replenished frequently and don't end up with some that's been sitting forever.
To add to your OCD, I don't fill up if I see a tank truck refilling the underground tanks, in my mind, the fuel is being agitated and debris if floating around in it...

I've been using 91 from Top Tier stations only
Unpopular opinion, I feel like Top Tier is a scam. I've been using the cheapest possible 91 octane I could find in my A4 for a over decade and 200k miles. No issues to speak of on my end.

It is more like a requirement. You can offer ethanol free fuel but are required to divert a certain amount of corn-fed black angus ground beef into the tanks of our vehicles. That corn could feed more cows or the land could raise alternate foodstuffs for direct human consumption. It is simply put a way for the federal government to subsidize corn farmers without direct subsidy payments.

Ethanol laced fuel returns less mpg. Minimally less, unless you run E85 but pure ethanol has 34% less Btu power available from it than pure gasoline. And the amount it actually reduces our dependence on foreign crude is suspect when it takes large fuel and fertilizer inputs to produce the alcohol stock. It is more about "see what we you duly elected congressman are doing for our country and the world"

Or more likely lobbying from the plastics and rubber fuel system components industry grousing that sales were down
Yes, if left to it, they'd put more in and charge the same. Ethanol has one purpose and that's to keep some rocks company in the vessel of your choice.

What is better? 90 Octane Ethanol Free, or 93 Regular? my Local gas station has both.

Luck for me, the Top Tier stations I find are cheaper than the Wawa swill (Wawas are always in less obscure intersections, thus charge more for the traffic convenience). Better to play it safe, I figure. I never thought about it for my C5, because I was already going to Sunoco for Ultra. My beaters all got 87 from wherethefuckever, but the Bronco is my first new vehicle and deserved some more thought. JMHO

I've ridden a motorcycle around the country for many years. The best advice I got was when you need gas in very rural areas choose the gas the locals use most. While there may be several grades of gas at the station the most expensive grade is sold less often. That means it sits in those underground tanks longer. Since I've adopted this plan I've had much fewer issues with "bad gas." In the big city, buy what you want.

Ah I didn't see you were in South Jersey, very cool. I'm in the Cherry Hill area and have been sticking to BJ's or Costco gas now that they're open nearby. They are a bit cheaper than even the shittiest gas stations and have new pumps and high turnover.

The place I used to go on Rt. 70 had stickers on the pump that said "Top Tear Gas"

...were the first words out of my salesman's mouth...after I took delivery of my 2DR/WT/SAS (2.7L) last week.
Can anyone tell me why?
Struck me as V E R Y odd.

Thanks!
I used 93 for the first 2000 miles on my 4Dr 2.7L Sasquatch and got 17 mpg. I used cheap regular fhe next 2000 miles and got 17 mpg. I was quite surprised to not see any difference in mileage. I only buy the cheap stuff now. I think the salesman was trying to save you $$.

It always shocks me, and I’m not sure why at this point, how little sales people know about their products or those of their competitors.

Ethanol is only harmful when sitting for longer times, the alcohol in the gas absorbs water. My wife drives the Jeep daily so I don't care about ethanol. My Volt's gas tank can last up to 9 months between fill ups if I don't go on long trips so it gets ethanol free although the gas tank is sealed so moisture absorption is minimal.
My boat's gas tank vents to the atmosphere and sits for a few months during winter so I try to get ethanol free for it and always pour in a stabilizer additive.

So, to answer your question, it depends on how often you burn that gas. Daily it=93, if it sits for a month between uses=ethanol free.
