Does anyone know what this little red light device is for? When I wear hiking boots, it sometimes interferes when I'm working the pedals.

It's not factory.

So either a GPS device, an immobilizer, perhaps something that was required as part of your auto loan, whatever. Heck, it could be an ejector seat and when the light goes out you go flying.

Where does the wiring for it go?

It seems to go up into the dash. I don't think there's any real way of knowing without removing the dash completely.

Were you offered or did you buy any aftermarket products when purchasing the vehicle? Or elsewhere? It doesn't look like a kill switch to me, which would not be nefarious per se, but you'd think you'd know about it.

Or do you have a nefarious ex-husband or ex-wife??

How long have you had the car, and what dealership did you buy it from.

My. guess is, this is some sort of anti-theft device.
About a year and a half now. I bought at puente Hills ford

I have not had any aftermarket work done. The sticker price does include anti theft device but I do not have any type of service active.

I don't mean aftermarket you asked for; there were reports on the forum of people finding devices that were pre-installed as a hard sell by the dealer to buy the service. They were offered the service and refused (device already installed, though), then later found a tracking device that the dealer wanted back.

There's also the angle RagnarKon suggested, if your loan requires recovery in case of default. I know secondary lots do this all the time. I used to have the largest vendor as a client and they had millions installed.

I don't know if you have something on the window sticker. Maybe Ford sells a pre-installed device that's factory? You can always take it back to the dealer and ask them to explain what it is.

I see. Yes, well it definitely came with it, new from the dealer, so it seems to be something they installed. That particular dealer is not local to me so I have not been back to it since.

Probably anti theft device dealer uses for cars on the lot. A lot of times they just disable it and leave it on the car. Easier for them especially if it is sold when no one that knows how to remove it is working.
