I ordered both, a Keypad entry and a trailer wiring module, from Ford parts. I had selected the install option on both, the installation is not available at all dealerships but luckily it is at mine.

The keypad installation requires programming by dealership and takes some time.
The trailer wiring module installation is quite involved, removing interior panels, running cables to the front ,ect...
My dealer honored both prices without a peep.

Guess you need a dealer that cares about customers like mine.

That's what's kept me from ordering the door unlock keypad, because I have doubts the dealerships in my area will abide the prepaid install cost.
I had no problems with my dealer. However, perhaps it’s because they contract this work out to another company.

I ordered the keypad and paid the $24 install ( I think) back in May when I bought my Bronco. The dealer did the programing for that price. I am in Will County.

Added the keypad to mine (installed it on the gas door). Found a dealer about an hour away from where I live in a small town who only charged me $85 to activate it. So maybe shop around with different dealerships? I think a lot depends on how busy they are. If they’re backed up for 3 weeks and making bank…they’re not hungry enough to cut you a break on the price, I’m guessing.
I recall earlier the purchase price for the keypad dealer config was around $25. Now I'm seeing $56. I guess the sticking point is getting a dealer to accept that labor charge.

One difference could be that I did not purchase my keypad from Ford. I bought it off eBay. So perhaps the labor charge is discounted if you allow them to make $50 extra selling the keypad.

If a dealership shows as being available for installation when doing an online order , then all pricing should be honored.
The dealership has the ability to modify labor on the online portal or decline installs all together.

Yeah, it’s all pretty easy. I had the bumper off, hitch on, plugged in the wiring, and bumper back on in less than 30 minutes. A few weeks later I installed the tow module while watching/listening to the 2nd quarter of the Longhorns vs Vanderbilt game. My top was off so that gave me extra room to work. I’ll get around to the programming part eventually. All in all I figure it’s a 4 month job.

They don't have a choice.

Why is that a "sticking point"?

It's not an issue.

Damndest thing is that these situations still occur. I know I am a bit of a dreamer, but after the Ranger trailer brake situation, you would have thought they got these things worked out.
In the Feb of 2020(pre-COVID) I ordered through Ford parts the trailer brake, as well as installation for my 2019 Ranger. I did search for the best install price, as where I lived there were half a dozen dealerships within reasonable driving distance. The dealership I chose was within 10 miles of 2 very large RV dealers.
I was assured it was a routine install, so I scheduled to work remote in the morning of the install. 30 minutes after I settled into the dealership lounge I was summoned to the service area. Turns out it was their first install on a Ranger. They thought it would be as simple as all the F-150 installs. They had no idea how long it would take. I had to rent a car from them. When I dinged them on the survey the dealership offered me 2 “ free” oil changes to compensate for the rental car charge. I was told they weren’t aware of the labor price listed on the website as well.
Granted this was for a trailer brake install, but still, someone at the dealerships, all dealerships, need to monitor the Ford websites attempting to drive business to them.

That's why I do the installation myself on practically everything (except shortblock and transmission internals). Everything else, I do myself.

I got scammed badly 7 years ago in a case of runaway scope, even when I was trying my absolute best to mitigate it. I was reconciling the parts and labor costs every day, initially a $2k repair, which snowballed into a $11.5k fluff-fest for "oh we need new hardware, oh we should really replace this hose, oh this is damaged so we went ahead and replaced it, etc." My mental tab was $3.5k, bill handed to me was $11.5k. After a long argument it was dropped to $8k, and I reluctantly agreed as I needed to get the car out for fear of sabotage (I experienced this in the past with a different shop when the owner spent my money on drugs instead of performance parts).

The cynic in me says "don't trust anyone, do it all yourself."

Even recently, we had a moderate issue with my wife's Gen2 Coyote 5.0. 46k miles with a 50k warranty but the duration expired by 3 months. Dealership quoted me $3700 to fix. I fixed it permanently with 2 vacation days and $150.

Scrutinize everything, especially these days. I'm not saying be an insufferable tire-kicker, but question everything, ask for clarity and itemization of everything involved. Hesitance or a lack of transparency is your sign to decline.
