It probably got angry, that glass has a temper.

Seriously tho, the number with glass problems is disturbing.

It seems like the glass is thin on my bronco, but I just checked against my explorer and the door window glass is thicker than my explorer has and rear window on bronco appears thicker than bronco door window.

We have not had a reason to use the back defrost yet. So, no we did not have that on, nor have we ever had it on.
I have not waxed it yet either.

But thank you all for responding.
I have heard of tempered glass exploding, but I have never experienced it.
Scared the whiz out of me and my wife.

Happened in my Mustang. Driver’s side window blew up on the highway at 70 mph. I thought I’d been shot.

JMHunter - Mustang passenger tempered glass exploded.
Was it within the warranty mileage and if yes, did Ford cover it under warranty?
I am looking at possibly at least $1100 bill.

Sounds like an old XJ, the back glass would bust if you farted too hard. Broke my XJ’s glass a couple times with no explanation either.

Old thread, but did you get it covered under warranty from Ford or did you have to go through insurance?

My rear window self-destructed in a parking lot the other day. A group of people on the patio said they heard a loud pop and saw glass everywhere. Said no one was around.
One of the gas struts broke and the rod end and my thoughts are when it broke it hit the glass and shattered it.

I doubt Ford will cover under warranty. No easy way to say or prove what happened. Most likely you’ll need to go through your insurance.

Happened to me.

The rear glass sat open in the West Texas sun for several hours. When I finally closed it, it exploded as if someone had shot it. The gunshot theory was not possible due to the extremely remote location where it happened.

Cost me $2200 at the Ford dealer (the assembly was in stock at another Houston Ford Dealer) and they broke one of the hinge covers and charged me for it! Go to a glass house to get some replacement prices. IIRC Ford sells the rear glass assembly online for under $800. A glass house will get Fords “jobber” price.

@Administrator ?
Great post, mine totally exploded💥I guess it’s fitting for July 04 fireworks💥
My question is how long it takes Ford to complete the replacement. I went on the Ford Parts site and it’s about $280 which is not cheap but it seems untinted. They do have tinted one on ebay? How long from reporting it to taking it in for repair?
