Hi all,

I got the 2.3L Ford Performance Tune installed by a dealer at 2k miles just so I could get that 3yr 36k mile warranty.

Does anyone know how this would affect if I were to purchase an extended warranty? I assume it may not cover engine issues once the tune warranty runs out?

I honestly don't think the dealership would even see the tune. If you were in there for engine repairs, I doubt they are looking for Fords own tune as the culprit.

As far as I know, there is no "red flag" in FDRS that even shows this tune (or other modifications)

The only way they would know it's in there is because you had them install it. ROFL

It would be treated like any other aftermarket part installed on your vehicle.

I’m assuming the warranty would be voided on anything impacted by the tune. Unfortunately that is probably the entire powertrain. I mainly wanted the ESP for dumb electrical failures like the 12” screen or safety systems, but with the manual transmission issues who knows. I got my tune in November but haven’t taken to install yet because the Bronco is hiding in the garage until the road salt is gone.

You could ask the installing dealer but I would think that being it keeps the factory 3 yr / 36k warranty intact that an extended would carry on as well. It is not the same as installing an aftermarket tune. Those could cause you to lose warranty on items that are affected by the tune. This is different provided it is installed by a certified tech.

3 year/36k mile warranty from new vehicle in-service when installed by a Ford dealer or ASE/Red Seal certified technician

Similar difference in power level, and the Whipple provides no warranty. Seems like a worse idea.

The 3/36 warranty included with the Ford performance programmer is for the new vehicle warranty.
It doesn’t not extend or provide any warranty to ESP plans.

Potentially can affect parts of the ESP warranty. I’m not saying it will for sure. Lots of factors.

Exactly what I needed to know. I wonder if I get an extended if it'll at least recover everything but the power train; electronics, soft top, etc.

Guess it's a question for a dealer but I feel each dealer may give a different answer, haha.
