I was driving and observing other vehicles and was wondering this. Would it be the shape of the tailpipe? Mustangs are pretty easy. Others with dual tips can be noticed on a cold winter day.

Far as I know they’re the same. No exhaust difference or anything you can see from the outside.

Unless it’s a wildtrak, then you don’t know which engine it has.

I prefer it that way, I have a 2.7, but am glad it’s not a “status symbol.”

There isn't really is defining exterior difference.

The most visible thing is the muffler. The 2.3L muffler is slightly smaller than the 2.7L muffler, but it is *real* close and unless you knew what you were looking at you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Exhaust is also fairly common aftermarket upgrade so it's definitely not reliable.

My favorite thing is to look in the driver's side wheel well. The 2.3L oil filter is visible from the driver's side wheel well. But obviously that's not something you'd be able to notice when driving around.
