I am looking to setup our 2023 Bronco Heritage for flat towing and had a question about the brake setup. We have a motorhome with a Freightliner chassis that is prepped with brake sync to use the AirForce One kit from Demco. I am wondering if that is the best way to go or just go with a portable brake option like the RVI?

Thanks

I use NSA Ready Brake , all mechanical.
Airforce one would be my second choice but my RV is not prepped for it.

Flat towing my 2024 Outer Banks. I installed all the tow bar plates, wiring, trailer hitch etc. I was originally planning using a StayNPlay type brake that's permanent. After much thought I elected to use an RVI3 portable brake. I used all plug and play wiring harnesses for the taillights so I wouldn't have to splice into factory wiring. Using that same thought, I did not want to splice into the 2.3 Turbo engine brake vacuum lines. I just got the RVI3 brake after their holiday sale so haven't used it yet. I opted for the wireless breakaway as well even though I've had no problems running wires thru the firewall using the rubber gasket under the driver footwell.
The RV in the shop getting a new jack cylinder so it will be a few weeks before I do much more than a test run. I'll post back here once i get everything installed and try it out. I bought their complete package with TPSM for RV and Bronco, battery charge monitor and case.

part of your flat-tow set-up might include $8,000 to $10,000 in cash to potentially fix the transmission catastrophic failure that happened to me and many others. Dealer blames operator error and does not warrant. I hope you avoid the loss of Time/money and ruined vacation that i endured.

The 4A Broncos are the ones that seem to have the issues with dropping out of 4 down tow mode.

Air Force one is the way to go for the brake system

I have the 2.7 with 4A. Zero flat towing issues. AF1 is the way to go IMHO.

Small Class C guy here, i and two friends use RVIs were all happy. There's nothing permanent on either rig and is portable from rig to rig.

My 2018 dp wasn’t prepped for AF1 so I went with RVi3. It’s been great.

🤣😆🤣
It’s always the dp that makes me rethink to insure I’m using it appropriately.

if you didn’t understand the acronyms, this question and the responses would be of no interest to you.

AF1 is the only way to go with a diesel pusher with air brakes and an exhaust brake; I assume your Freightliner chassis has an exhaust brake like most. When the exhaust brake engages it lights up the brake lights and the systems designed to work off the brake light signal will activate the Bronco’s brakes and can create an over braking situation on your Bronco since its brakes will be helping to slow your heavy motor home during long descents. Much better to let the exhaust brakes slow the entire train. I’ve towed my Bronco all over every western state (12,000 miles) and many long steep stretches in Colorado and other states and will vouch for the effectiveness of the AF1.

Hello G6:
I, too, and an RVer and lost my transmission from RV-towing my Bronco. Ford denied my warranty claim and refused to buy back my vehicle. Now, I am on a mission to create a documentary to warn others about Ford defrauding us about the Bronco’s RV-towing capabilities, and failing to support their customers who experience this. Would you please help me and spread the word? Please contact me at [email protected]. Thanks in advance!

I believe M&G Brakes in Texas is the best RV towing brake system made. The offer proportional braking with 30% more power than Air Force One and a larger break-away tank for emergencies. But I would really rethink towing a Bronco. I purchased a 2023 Bronco and had some challenge on every single trip. My last trip included losing our transmission. I even had a video showing we were in tow mode, and Ford did not want to see it. I was guilty with zero opportunity to defend myself. Ford denied my warranty claim and it cost me $10,000. Do yourself a favor and purchase a trailer. There used to be a lot of threads on here about this, but they appear to be cleaned off. Good luck! You’ve been warned.
