I am new to both flat towing and to the Bronco world. I have read the horror stories about flat towing the bronco and I pray I am an exception. I was wondering if I am towing behind a 30’ Class A Motorhome, do I need a protective cover for the Bronco Windshield? or a protective flim on the Bronco hood to prevent dings and cracks? Just wanted opinions based upon experience.
Thank you,
Reed P

That's a debate as old as time...

I would recommend PPF where you can, make sure you have the best flaps on your RV, and avoid as many bad roads/go slow when you can.

The debate is about how low are the odds of damage to your towed vehicle, due to rocks kicked up, stacks up against a cover that may be flapping and beating on your Bronco at freeway speeds when dust can get under the cover and get rubbed on your paint like makeshift sandpaper.

For your windshield, you may want to look at getting one of those parking enforcement barnacles:

I was worried about this too. Rather than try to address on the Bronco end, I did so on the RV end. I bought this set of brushes that mount to the bumper. So far so good towing the Bronco. Note I also have the bug deflector on the Bronco for what it's worth.

I rimmed the windshield with Dual-Lock and did the same to one of those interior sun shades from Weather Tech. I also wrapped the entire thing in cling wrap and silicone sealed the end of the wrap. Secure hold and after about 7.5K tow miles, still in good shape. The cling wrap appears to be holding up pretty well to weather and it's easy to "recondition" if need be - although I've not yet had to do that. Yes - I'm a tight-wad.

@reedp - This is what I was talking about. The barnacle was just a joke. @Bill K is smart to use the bug deflector, especially, in tandem with the RV brushes--good call.

We really need a picture of this setup.

None of that is needed. Your Bronco is going to be 6’ behind the motorhome and any rocks kicked up will more than likely will go underneath the Bronco’s bumper.

It's not only rocks... Years ago coming out of Glacier NP we drove down the Big Chief highway to continue our trip. Cattle were allowed to freely graze across the highway. At the time, I was towing my motorcycle which was on a trailer that was open but had a 3 ft high guard in front of the front wheel. The trailer was covered with cow poop along with the bike despite the original mud flaps on the RV being there. It took a long time to clean all that off at my next stop. With this memory in mind I chose to err on the side of caution and not rely on "more than likely"...
