I got around to ordering a pair of OEM hood struts for my Bronco this week. I didn't realize how much I'd enjoy having these on my truck!

I took advantage of a 20% discount with the 60th anniversary code, so the struts went from $130/pair down to $104. You only need one tool (13mm socket) to install them and about 15 minutes of your time.

The benefits are that the hood practically raises itself now, you no longer have that prop rod in your way, and the hood itself raises several inches higher, giving you more clearance to work with.

I worry about it becoming a pivot point that could damage the hood. Kind of like what happened with old square body Chevy trucks.

Highly doubtful, if I'm following your point. These install using bolts that are already on your Bronco. If you're curious, buckle-up offroad has a very nice video on YouTube, accurately depicting installation.

Those were heavy springs that held those hoods up back then. I remember.

These struts don’t have that same resistance. You can close the hood with two fingers with the struts.

If you’re in a hot area though, that plastic cowl can warp and expand and, as others have reported, catch on the hood and get ripped off when the hood opens. Seen a lot of people with their air compressors under the hood have this problem when they’re out on the trail and that plastics been baking all day and they go to open the hood to air back up and bam, that whole plastic piece is wrecked. I’ve really wanted to get struts but that has definitely worried me a bit! 🤣

I still don't see what these struts have to do with the cowling. I mean, I know the proximity of the cowling to the hood but these struts bolt into the metal hood on one end, and into the metal fender on the other, using bolts that are already on every Bronco. I think some of y'all are overthinking it.

I’m referring to this possible issue ⤵

There’s a better thread about this somewhere but I couldn’t find it. This thread wasn’t specifically caused by hood struts but it better explains what area I’m referring to.

I have the similar Redline Quicklift struts that I paid about the same for. This is one of the easiest and most beneficial modifications you can make to your Bronco. The only thing I'd rate higher is an updated oil drain plug, like the Valvomax or similar (if you change your own oil).

The Ford struts were my first Mod, should have been factory installed. A benefit is the hood opens further than the prop rod location. The mounting is engineered into the car--I have no concerns with stress on the hood.
