I lost a key fob and out of principle I hate to give Livermore Ford any of my money. Has anyone been sucessful buying a blank and being able to program it with ForScan? I went to Costco today and they can't program it and neither can Tom's Key online.

Thoughts?

A quick Google search says there are at least half a dozen Ford dealers within a reasonable drive from Livermore. Any dealer can do it for you. Just bring proof of ownership (your id and registration).

That is the only way if you dont already have 2 working fobs.

This is exactly why I bought a third key fob. Having a third fob will keep me from losing one of the other two. I found one online from a dealer in a neighboring state four under $40. Cheap insurance.

When I bought my bronco, I bought two extra remotes and programmed them via the center console. Got them from Carandtruckremotes.com

For my extra remote. It came with the built in key blank. Has anyone cut this key to match your Bronco? Do you need a special locksmith?

You need a special key cutting machine, but I would assume any automotive locksmith has one.

Correct, but it’s almost gonna cost as much as the key fob itself. I couldn’t find the cheap locksmith to do it so my two extra keys are not cut.

I was hoping for a cheap option. I’ll probably just leave it uncut.

It definitely shouldn't. I think my dealership only charges like $10-20 to cut a physical key with no programming involved.

Guess I’m gonna have to recheck with them!

That’s what I did. Since I only need one good key to cut the blank, for now I put a key tag on the blank and tossed into my center console. Whenever I drop off my Bronco at the dealer or am forced to use valet service, I just release the fob part from my personal key ring and clip in the blank and hand that over. It’s much easier than trying to remove the entire fob+key from my key ring, plus i can lock the center console and glove box and they wont have access with the blank.

A local locksmith warned me about after market key blanks. He said some are too thick and wont fit into the key slot. So double check before having a blank cut.
