Has anyone deleted their front passenger seat?

I’m specifically interested in learning if anyone has figured out how to defeat the dash warning.

My Bronco is a 2D Badlands. I have an idea that is hinged on the occasional removal of the front passenger seat.

I removed my rear seats long ago and was able to defeat the seat belt warning, however the front harness is different and far more complicated due to the airbags, etc.

cheers

Sorry I can't help you with actual help...

But I do like the idea of removing all possible passengers....

For my rear I actually removed the belts. To not get an airbag warning light you have to crack open the latch side of the belt and remove the device that sends the signal. It is on my build page.

Yes, I’m familiar with the process for the rear. My question pertains to the front passenger seat as the wire harness is different. Cheers.

The process should be the same of removing the receiver end cracking it open removing the wire and stuffing the electronics out of the way. Or am I missing something?

The rear seats are just a matter of completing the circuit like you show by disassembling the receiver. The front has a sensor that detects weight in the seat. Unplugging the seat harness interrupts that signal tripping the kaleidoscope of warnings.

I think it will take someone to disassemble the lower seat and reverse engineer what that sensor system entails. The "ugliest" solution would be to have a sacrificial seat cushion to deconstruct and remove that sensor. Plug that into the harness when the seat is removed and hopefully be able to tuck it away in a non-obtrusive manner.

Forgot the weight sensor. Tuck the sensor under the consol? Surely you could get a seat from a pull apart?

That would be my suggestion. I'm sure there are plenty of seats on car-part or other salvage sites. Doesn't need to be fancy as it will be disassembled. If people are building a sleep platform than the the connected sensor can just sit under the platform.

I presume those that are entertaining such a thought are intending it to be temporary so they aren't going to mess with the seat belt receptacles. As long as the weight sensor isn't triggered, then no seat belt warning will be seen.

When they need to revert it back to a passenger seat, then just unplug the sacrificial seat sensor and save it for the next time.

Thanks for all the chatter, I appreciate everyone’s comments.

rear seat belts: yes the pic from above is the correct part for the rear seats. I purchased two rear seat belt assemblies and hulk smashed that little part out, then simply plugged it in to defeat the rear seats belt alarm.

front is uncharted territory for me, as discussed above how to defeat the dash warnings remaining to be seen.

Here’s what little I know so far. I unplugged this harness under the front passenger seat and the dash error displayed a “rear seat belt” error. I can’t remember the exact warning but it was “rear”. (I should have disconnected the battery first but I did not, will do next time. Yes, vehicle was off). I believe this is the one I need to figure out.

Also under the seat is this plug, looks like it leads to the female seat belt buckle but I’m not sure yet, and definitely not flexible enough to jam myself under there to see what’s going on without pulling the mounting bolts and making some room. If this is true then I’d wager the process to defeat would be similar or identical to the rear buckles

This of course is only speculation, I’ll admit electrical skill is at the bottom of my skill set. Ha ha ha.

Also it’s worth mentioning, this entire idea is only valid if the process to remove the seat is relativity easy. As I would only do this once or twice a year, so it would need to be easily reversible and simple to execute.

cheers.

there would be a way to replicate no occupancy in the passenger seat while it is removed. all compnents in the seat and belt would be discrete / digital so it would be a matter of what circuit do you leave open and what do you complete. I would think would make an easy plug to mate the other halves that contains the make / break for the circuits.
