I am looking to add a new shop type vac to the garage. Mostly just for cleaning the Bronco and some other light tasks. Bagless would be preferable. My top priority would be that the motor should be both powerful and indestructible. After spending a lot of time reading reviews it seems that most reasonably priced options are cheep imported pieces of junk with high failure rates and no support from the manufacture. Does anyone own a garage vac that is still for sale that you would suggest? Thank you in advance.

Not in my garage, but attach to my boat slip. Works great but does not float well 🤷

I use THIS - Milwaukee M18 portable wet/dry vacuum. It sucks well, is bagless, can handle both wet & dry messes and comes will all the tools for getting into tight spaces. 👍🏼

Depending on how much money you spend, a wall mount can have a stronger motor, which equals more suction, but not always, so do your homework.

I grew up with one at my parent's house, like everything else, there are pros and cons.
Emptying the tank, not such a pro.

TL,dr:
Try one of Bosch's shop vacs. I loved the one they sent out to me at work.
Not sure if they have a wall mount version, but the roll-a-way impressed the holy hell out of me.

I tried the giraffe wall mount it was junk, had girlfriends with far better suction. I now have the obsessed garage wall mount vaccum with my hose on a reel and it’s pricey but worth EVERY penny https://www.obsessedgarage.com/collections/vacuums/products/obsessed-garage-vacuum-solution
I was expecting a much higher price on that ... OG isn't known for bargain pricing! LOL

The main reason I expected higher pricing .... I got to use an "expensive" vac at work.

I had opportunity to abuse the ever living hell out of a Bosch $600/$800 unit at work.
I needed a shop vac on site and that is what they sent me ... had to get it done, so I used it. I actually felt bad for what I was about to do to this thing.

That Bosch didn't even think about sweating!! I am absolutely floored by that thing ... luckily the floor was nice and clean now. (Dad joke, lol)

I was vacuuming up a TON of concrete dust, which DESTROYS shop vacs and plugs filters in zero time.
I requested the throw-a-way bags for easy clean up. They sent HEPA.
I used the HEPA bags and it just sucked away until the bag was about 3/4 full ... which was probably 60 lbs of 'crete dust.
I filled that thing up probably three or four times over the course of the job.

It also uses a drop in filter very much like a rectangle car air filter. As you are vacuuming, the vac does this "thumping" thing that knocks the dust off of the filter to extend the "knock it out/blow it off" service interval. Of course, using the bags, I don't think a spec of dust made it to that filter.

Prior to that job (this past summer) , there's probably NO WAY you'd ever have convinced me to buy a ~$600+/- shop vac.
Now I'm sold on it.
That and those HEPA bags.

Filters are the key thing for extending your vacs life span.
"Employees" get tired of cleaning the filters all the time and just run it without one, which destroys the motor in short order.

how would a wall mount be better than a normal shop vac?
I'm kind of wondering the same thing. Especially if the wall-mount market is full of junk units.

Some of these roll-a-ways are just as powerful as anything else.
In the end, like electric heaters, they are all limited by the conventional 15 amp circuit breaker. They are almost always designed for a 15A circuit... anything beyond that will be custom/commercial in design, cost and installation..... usually.

I just use long hoses/hoses linked together and accomplish the same thing, plus still have mobility because there WILL be times you need a vacuum WAY OVER THERE !!

or...

I suspect you can just hook up a roll-a-way to your central vac tubing system or hose winder and still have the roll-a-way option available for those times you need it.

Then again, it's not like having two vacuums is going to require a mortgage re-finance.

LOL

I like the wall mount unit just because it takes up less space. The Rigid has very good suction.

Have a gander at the retailer Thinking Vacuums. I installed a whole house central vacuum system for my house some 20 years ago. If necessary, purchasing replacement parts is a breeze. On their website and they have a great selection of name brand home and industrial wall mount models. Here's the hyperlink. Good luck with the search. https://www.thinkvacuums.com
