Looking for a decent hitch basket. Ideally something that doesn't need to be removed in order to open the tail gate and can also be folded so it's not in the way when not in use but still attached. the rukrac seems to be the closest to what i want but its more of a permanent install.

Iā€™m unsure of a folding one. But I rock the Harbor Frieght aluminum basket. Iā€™ve driven cross country with zero complaints.

This seems perfect. Do you know if there are any clearance issues?
Can't say for certain but I got the idea from @OBXBRONCO and I confirmed that he is using the Kuat Swing Away. I like the driver side as I have a tailgate table and figured if I have a cooler on my left and table on right I don't have to take up the space for fridge pull or drawers.

Agree on that Kuat Pivot. I leave it on most of the time, it serves as an extender, and moves both the bike rack and beach basket out of the way when opening the tailgate.

Check out PAKMULE - a USA company, pricey but high quality, different models, all aluminum, cargo load capacities vary - 500-650 #s. Have it on my slope-mower tractor at the moment. Great customer service, just call them with dimensions and needs. Will last forever!

Another upvote for pakmule! I think it's the best and least janky. I use it as a bike rack + cargo storage when I am traveling somewhere like Moab. I also use it for hunting now that I don't have a truck. Fits a cooler for elk and can handle the weight! Now the Bronco suspension on the other hand....

I have the swing arm and it's great for my Thule bike rack.

Let me preface that my goals with cargo carriers are to retain off-road ability wherever possible without resorting to a roof rack (I like soft top operability)

In the past I used the harbor freight ATV rack with an anti-rattle hitch extension. It has an upsweep which helped with departure angle and I was still able to partially open the tailgate without using a pivot adapter (when rack was empty). ymmv with tire sizes as it was close with factory black diamond 32s and I have not tested it with my current 35s. I am currently evaluating options for a front hitch receiver to use this rack out front instead.

I have since switched rear cargo duty to the spare tire mounted RucRak. It is more compact but has 2 "shelves" of storage to make up for it and folds flat against the spare tire when not in use. It is also a great 2 bike rack. I do not have a lot of miles on it yet but have used it for cargo and for mountain bikes and it works great. I think it represents the best possible compromise of departure angle, cargo space and rear window visibility.

Got this one on sale for $99. Can open the gate as long as it's empty and it doesn't even rattle - or maybe my hearing just sucks :) Can't fold it up of course, but the other ones from HF were too tall to open the gate.

Put over 2,500 miles on it this summer and am happy with it.

I wrote this one off since I knew it wasnā€™t going to fold up but maybe I should get it anyway. Seems cheap enough for my needs.
