Our dual band antenna is mounted to the passenger side of the spare tire. I made a bracket out of thin sheet metal from Lowes. Used the existing tire mount bolts to attach and ran the coax cable through the rubber gromet already in place. The cable then enters the Bronco in the same wire bundle as the tailgate wire. Our radio is a model that splits the radio body from the control head, so our cable is not all the way to the front. If your radio does not split, then the antenna cable does get a little long if you go this route, but a good cable will help.

This set up does not make any new holes and it provides pretty good protection to the antenna.

Here are pictures of my radio install. Yeasu FT-8800. The head is mounted to the dash with a Bullet Point Systems mount. Radio body is on the passenger center console. Still no thrilled with the speaker placement, but not any real good choices. The power feed is a home run to the battery. I've had this radio for years and it's a bullet proof.
