I've seen plenty of cars with dead LEDs, so I' think I'll take my chances with good old fashioned manual lights. I don't mind hitting the switch when the skies turn gray. You seem like the kind of guy that wears a helmet and a reflective vest on your bike, but me i'm more of the lazy kind of guy that would rather not have to go through the hassle or cost of changing my lights more than necessary.
You know, its good you can turn off the lights all the way off too manually. Like a late night approach to a campsite where you don't want to disturb anyone. Most vehicles are harder to turn off DRL. Side note, funny you mention it, I ride really hard in LA. Lane splitting, and pretty fast. I wear the best helmet you can get and always wear full race leather jacket and race boots and gloves even on little short rides. The vests are dorky, yet effective, but I have black reflective tape on my carbon helmet, so it looks normal in the day. Reflects silver at night.

So a separate thought......I want to put my DRLs on a switch so I can leave them on when I am parked without it running. Anyone looked into or done that yet as far as how to do it??

I am surprised about the amount of people, that have such an affinity to chime in for someoneā€˜s choice, not to utilize a feature on a car. Shocking, actually.

I live in an area with a lot of country 2 lane roads. I'm glad to have DRL so that fools who think about passing when it's not safe to do so will hopefully see me coming the other way! 😐

If you want to run down your battery, without installing a switch for your DRLs, you could just turn on your hazards. That switch is factory installed.

These are the worst reasons to turn drl off. Whatever load they add to the battery is negligible and unless you drive with a mirror in front of your car you won't see them
With LED headlights the load is probably negligible but when DRL first came out and most cars still had halogen headlights, there was a little debate about the benefits because it was estimated to increase fuel consumption by up to 1%, which worked out to a couple million gallons of fuel daily in the U.S.

Probably because this is a safety choice, and deliberately making yourself less visible to other drivers is idiotic. There's a reason DRLs are required by law in many places now.

You can stick with your factory installed switch and I'll figure it out on my own.

The LED is not a wear item. There is no bulb to change. It is designed to last longer than the engine. If any led in your head or taillights go out the entire lens assembly gets replaced at well over $1000 each.

I always thought DRL’s were only required in the Canadia. I was wrong though. šŸ˜‘

$1000 is insane, I paid a few hundred to put nice retrofit LEDs on my old Bronco. At that replacement price, I definitely wouldn't run my lights during a bright sunny day.

I get that, but we, as a society, have survived without DRLs on vehicles for over 80 years. If someone doesn’t want them, that’s their choice. I am not going to lambast someone’s choice to not have lights on, during the day.
