Burned out a fuel pump on my previous vehicle playing this game, so I try and refill around 1/4 tank now, when possible.

Not worth my time to burn another one, have to get it towed to a shop, etc. I appreciate the spirit of the game though. Good luck to all you players.
Same here, I burned out the high pressure pump on my 87 Bronco running it empty. In tank pumps are cooled by the fuel itself, so they can overheat if you run too low. I generally fill between 1/4 and 1/8 of a tank remaining.

Now that my headache has subsided after battling through that first post and determining the intent of this thread...

On my F150 I have pulled into the gas station with 0 miles to empty once 1 or 2 a few times and below 5 miles is probably standard. Drives my wife nuts.

Yesterday had the Bronco down to 3 miles to empty.

I used to let my fuel level get pretty low but I don't anymore. The fuel is used to cool the fuel pump and the less fuel you have the hotter the fuel pump gets, reducing its life expectancy. I had a dodge Durango that went through 2 fuel pumps because my wife would let it get very low.
I try to refill when I get to 1/4 of the fuel tank left.

Burned out my fuel pump on my '05 Durango. Great truck, if you refuel within a reasonable time. I wish I could take the HEMI and drop it in my WildTrak.

As long as it is still running when I get to the gas pump, that's enough fuel.

Years ago it wasn’t uncommon for me to go 10 miles past 0 in the saabaru and pilot. I ran out of gas once and decided to stop procrastinating on every fill up. I had read there’s usually a gallon of gas buffer when it hits zero.

Rarely below a 1/4 tank, especially in an off-road vehicle. I’d rather keep whatever sediment collects at the bottom of the fuel tank out of the engine…and not have to replace the fuel pump.

There is still a whole gallon in there when it gets to 0 miles to empty. I only ran it down that far once to find out that detail. I generally fill up my cars by the time the low fuel light comes on claiming about 50 miles to empty.

I don't hate my fuel pump enough to do this. I usually refill around 1/4 tank.

My last tank I got down to 18. It took 15 gallons exactly, so I know I had a pretty good reserve still.

I typically just fill up on the weekends on grocery runs or trips to the hardware store.
If my tank is below half, I fill it up. That way, in case of an emergency or I need to go somewhere far and in a hurry, I'm not having to stop and fill up. I'll be ready to go.
It's also easier on the pump to have more fuel cooling it.
Could I let it go lower? Absolutely.
I just don't mind filling it up if I'm already out and about doing things.

I usually wait until 20. I have the after market "voice module" that starts nagging me when it gets any lower.

These tanks feel so small. It feels like a lot of fill ups! 17 mpg. My f150 gets 19.5!
