Hey All,

I have a 2021 Base 4 door. It obviously didn't come with a keyless entry pad so I purchased one.
I thought I could install it but apparently Ford has to do it through their system? They said it would cost like $300.
Is there a way around it?

It requires a piece of software called FDRS—Ford Diagnostic & Repair System.

You can buy a 3-day FDRS software license for ~$25... but you also have to buy the adaptor to connect a Windows laptop to your vehicle. And that's where it gets expensive in a hurry (like hundreds of dollars for knock-off versions and thousands of dollars for the official equipment).

Crazy. Does anyone besides a dealer have FDRS?

Eh.... it may be a mixed bag.

Most repair shops that regularly work on Ford vehicles probably have IDS, which was the piece of software needed to work on Ford vehicles up through 2018. FDRS is effectively the new version of IDS, but since many of the 2019 and newer vehicles still have their factory warranty, the independent repair shops may not have needed to purchase FDRS licenses yet.
