I tried searching and couldn’t dig up much about this but I know I’m not alone..

I upgraded my non-B&O stock set up with the Kicker KSs. For the kick panels, I used the Metra adapters. I put some foam tape between the sheet metal and the adapter, the adapter and the speaker, and on the outside of the speaker. Now I can’t get the speaker grill back on.

Is the best solution just to dremel out the ring on the grill? Any other workarounds or adapters?

I appreciate the help thank you.

I had the same problem when I installed my Kickers, for me it was the thin 1/2” long plastic ring that is on inside of the kick panel grill. I just trimmed it down to fit, if I recall correctly it was only certain areas of it that was making contact on speaker mounting face, don’t think I had to trim the entire ring.

I did the same as @Dan-O. I also had some buzzing from the grille vibrating, especially in the upper forward corner that I used a small amount of stick-on foam to fix.

I was able to install the Sounds Good Stereo adapters this morning and they give about 8mm more clearance vs. the Metras. The OEM grille covers snap in easily and there's plenty of clearance with the Hertz CX Centro 165's. No issues on the installation whatsoever. Third time is the charm I guess.

Pics...First one is driver's side obviously, with the SGS adapter in place, lots more clearance. Second pic, passenger's side, with the grille installed. Third pic, for those that have looked at the Metro setup, you can see how it's more flush. 4th pic just showing the installation with the SGS adapters. Fifth, a ruler showing the difference in height (approximately 8mm).

The SGS are more expensive but at least you'll know they'll work. They're pretty solid and I pre-drilled pilot holes for the speaker to adapter screws. The three outer adapter to bronco screws are pre-drilled and due to the lower height, they're far easier to install than the Metras as it was easier to see the holes and what you were doing.

Hope this helps!
