So I am upgrading my kick panel speakers on a 2023 OBX 2 door , non b&o. I’m doing SSV 6.5 in the pods on the roll bar, new 4” infinity in dash and was going to do Kicker coaxal in the kick panel until reading all the threads for hours this morning and now really confused!! lol . I’m not doing the kicker key amp (yet) but am changing the forscan. Should I just do bass speakers in the kick panels or do the coaxial?
Thxs.. Happy trails!

No reason to upgrade the kick panels unless you are doing an aftermarket amp.

The factory kick panels are actually decent speakers, and you are unlikely to hear any difference between the factory speakers and aftermarket speakers as long as you have the factory amp.

The base system wires the dash speakers and the kick panels together, I personally think this set up gets too bright with coax speakers. Agree with @RagnarKon you won’t notice much of a difference until you add the amp. The pods and forscan will make more of a difference.

Agreed - and if you are doing Infinity 4" in the dash - you don't need any more brightness. I have Infinity all around as I didn't like the the look of the only Raptor option for 6.5 pods in the rear. I did however upgrade my B&O kicks to Memphis MOJO Pro 6" - the efficiency rating alone creates an impact using the stock B&O amp at produces more sound.

Just to add to what others are saying...

You don't want coaxial speakers in the kick panels because you want the highs to be coming from your dash speakers to set the sound stage, not from down below, which would sound harsh or muffled. The door speakers should be "midrange" speakers without the tweeter, which is how they come from the factory.

You will lose volume (especially bass) if you replace the factory speakers without adding a decent amp. The factory speakers have a high sensitivity and do well with the factory amp. They will crap out with a lot of power. Aftermarkets can handle more power and will sound louder, but they will have lower sensitivity so it takes more power to get them there.

See how the factory speakers sound once you do the Key 200.4. As a warning, the Key will add more power, but you're still only getting 50 watts split between the dash and kick speaker, so it won't be too dramatic.

I just added a dedicated amp for my Memphis kick speakers and have them focus on midbass frequencies between 70 - 300 Hz, which is mostly drums, bass guitar, and low male vocals. https://www.bronco6g.com/forum/thre...45u-slave-amp-and-ds18-xohv-crossover.100197/
