I work with trees everyday so this is not a surprise to me although the problems that I see are that people love trees so much that they let them overgrow the situation that they were intended for when they were planted. Additionally there is a lot of resistance from the newer tree hugger eco-friendly generation to cutting any tree. I've literally gone up to people and told them that their tree is unhealthy and likely to fall on their home or possessions and then at the next wind storm I drive by and lo and behold the same tree as crushed their home or car.

As someone with a house surrounded by large trees, this stuff always makes me nervous. Trees that look perfectly fine seemingly just fall over without warning.

The flip side of that is the numerous people who think you can just cut a sizable tree any old way you like. The result is large-diameter branches or the main trunk cut off with big stub ends.

This results not only in rot risk, but also means that the abundant regrowth that happens afterwards will come from buds just under the bark on the stub ends of the cuts. This results in new growth that's not strongly attached to the tree - it's not rooted in with a knot to the center of the tree. After the new growth has gotten big enough, it'll be really vulnerable to breaking off and causing injuries or property damage below.

If you want to trim a large tree, please bring in a reputable tree company, one with real arborists that will do what's right for the tree in the long term, not just whatever the customer insists on right now. Your Bronco will thank you. And yes, there can be times that a tree just gets too big for its space on a developed property.

I have no connection to any tree company, btw. I'm just tired of seeing tree atrocities that are really bad for the health of the tree while also increasing long-term hazards to people.
