Magic Box for streaming?

Sorry moderators, not quite sure where this one goes….

Anyone try these “magic box” gadgets that basically hijacks the infotainment screen to allow you to use Hulu/Netfix, etc?

In 2007, with my company car 3 days old, I ripped the dash completely apart to install a Coastal Electronics Lockpick. The goal was to take this BASE BASE BASE car, so base it was fleet only, and add aux in for my satellite radio. The Lockpick did that. But because the car had a center screen, the Lockpick also added video in.

Damned if it didn't work:

yes, that's a portable DVD player showing Star Trek on the center screen.

I just got the the Elite Car Box. Works awesome. You just need WiFi from your phone or the Bronco itself, which that's what I used.

Thanks Nickels, I saw that one too and had full screen usage.

One football game I truly love to see each year and I’m always in the car coming home for it, listening on XM, the Iron Bowl (Alabama vs Auburn). This year I wouldn’t mind letting the wife drive while I watch the game in the passenger seat!

I can't imagine how it can. It's using the built-in wired Android Auto connection to your car, nothing more--just like your phone would use that.

Not that I know of. You just plug it into the USB-C under the radio. Its like a wired Apple Car Play. But its Android based. Easy to set up.

I use the magic box 2.0 in my Bronco. It offers both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It's a cool little box, you can stream just about anything on it (as long as the Google Play Store has an app) I use VLC for general streaming, both over the air and via the SD Card I have attached to it.
