I am thinking about getting a mounted midland Gmrs radio with the controls in the mic just for trail use…I am pretty deaf (can make out a few words from my handheld with my hearing aids in)…wondering how loud/good the speaker in the mic is? Had a pa speaker hooked to my cb that worked great in the old days…never really had a problem with power from handheld so thinking 15 watts (275) would be fine…I am seriously tech challenged…what ya all think?

With the midland radio you can use the speaker on the mic, the speaker on the radio unit, or both. You can also add an additional speaker as well.

A lot of folks add the Midland amplified external speaker and position it somewhere dash-level or above so that they can hear it better.

Something to consider is the somewhat overall low quality of the received audio from just about all radio to radio comms. Even with proper squelch or some digital techniques, radio comms just don't make crystal clear audio.

There are radios out there that support Bluetooth. If your aids do, that has potential to provide improved audio.

You can also hook up an external earpiece to the main unit and use that…
