Has anyone had to touch-up or repaint their modular bumper and found a good match to the OEM color?

I have a mod bumper I need to repaint the center steel section and was wondering if anyone has found a close match to the original color/texture.

Thanks!

Options that I am aware of but haven’t personally used include:
  • Krylon Fusion textured black
  • Rustoleum Truck bed coating
  • Raptor Truck Bed Coating

I have the Raptor coating. If you can wait until Thursday I can test it. I have used it on my IAG steps. My guess is you will have to spray entire part. I will check sooner if time allows.

A search of previous threads yielded the following suggestion. For those who don't feel like clicking the link, Rustoleum Rugged Black was suggested.

Just painted some Raptor samples on cardboard and a metal can. Results when fully cured.

Raptor might have a little more gloss to it but I'd use it in a heartbeat. I used it on some aig ez steps and it coated well and matched really well.
Definitely spray outside, it's lethal stuff. And be careful to not overspray, it's sort of thicker and cleanup would be a pain. Looks like it should protect well

Also heard rustoleum bed liner matches.

Buy a can of each and paint some samples to compare. Id love to know the results of how they compare to each other

I did my entire bumper in Rustoleum Truck Bed Black. That said, I had the chinese knock-off, and while it did come powder coated, it wasn't very good. So I just painted the entire thing inside and out before I put it together.

But now I know exactly what paint is gonna match. That Truck Bed Black matches the black plastic trim very well, and almost exactly matches the power coat on my RSEs The texture from it isn't overly thick, and it's held up pretty well against rock chips and scratches.

I don't think it would match the OEM Factory powder coat though, that seems like it's a lighter shade of black, and the texturing would be off.

It matched my IAG steps perfectly too.

Wait a minute. It matched my IAG steps perfectly and they are not shiny. I forgot to shake the can today. Wonder if that’s why it’s glossier. Will try again tomorrow.

Am I seeing pinholes in the coating? I may have to ask a chemist what could cause this?

Perhaps the chemical formula uses an evaporative material to obtain the texture, and this evaporation leaves pinholes in the coating. My experience tells me that a protective coating on steel should be fully encapsulating.

Could also be from surface preparation. I'd hate to have to remove the coating after application, can't imagine that would be an easy task.

Very interested in seeing how things shake out after shaking

Thank you for your efforts!!!

I just sprayed it quickly before sun set heavily so I could get a pic for color purposes.

Rustoleum textured black, spray it pretty dry it’s a perfect match. You can kinda dab with a microfiber as needed to taper in a edge if need be.

I bought my mod bumper second hand with some imperfections. Used that paint and you would never know I fixed it.

I can get you a picture of the can of need be

Did a respray. The Raptor doesn’t match. Still glossy and too black. Texture is to coarse even with multiple light coats. It would be fine if entire bumper was sprayed.

I tried Rustoleum Truck Bed Coating and the texture looks and feels extremely similar. The spray color is very slightly darker (I sprayed on a piece of glossy cardstock paper) but maybe with dirt, weather, and sun exposure the color will look more identical.
