Well, I got my Bronco alternative. It's a 2011 Xterra Pro-4X with a clean Carfax, two owners, and 83k miles, garage kept, no rust. BFG K02's have at least 75% tread left. 350W 9 speaker (including subwoofer) Rockford-Fosgate stereo with 6 disc CD changer and sat radio. The previous owner also had a remote start/alarm installed, and Weather Tech fitted mats. Got it for $12,750.

That is my exact truck except mine is white.

Just an FYI that the timing chain is an issue for many owners and it seems to occur around 90 - 100K miles. Mine actually went at 88K. It's best to replace the tensioners before you have any real problems, but definitely replace if you start to notice any weird engine noises. It's an expensive repair, but you don't want to risk losing your engine.

edit: Also, if it hasn't been done yet, you are probably close to time for the transmission fluid to be changed.

I've been looking into the timing chain issues. I read the TSB was for years 2005-2010, are 2011 and later years affected too?

Not nearly as common but if you start to hear chirping from the engine bay, get it in for the work.

All I can tell you is that I noticed a bad noise from the engine of my 2011 PRO-4X at 88K miles. I didn't hear it from the cabin, so I missed hearing it early. I only realized it after I pulled up next to my wife's car and I could hear bouncing off hers. Then I got out and listened with the hood open and knew something was wrong.

I was back in business after a $2900 repair bill (and this was a cash transaction with a local Japanese repair shop. The dealerships were quoting me around $4000 or more.)

edit: And I was lucky that there wasn't damage in the engine. I was faced with paying a big bill just to open the engine and find out if more was wrong. I took the gamble and luckily it paid off.

That Xterra looks pretty nice. I have a 2011 Frontier, which is great, but the turn radius is absolute crap. Pay attention to that if you haven’t done a test drive. It truly is bad. Otherwise, I bet it’s a solid ride.

Mine was more of a clicking or rattling, but yes, this the right advice.

That’s trippy. The parts bin must be shared with some Japanese manufacturers because your Xterra buttons look crazy similar to the ones on an FJ Cruiser

The title says it all. The high admission price of a new Bronco, along with changing circumstances (read: spousal support), has dashed my plans for a new Bronco. My $100 reservation was quickly refunded - thank you Grainger! I still want something similar, so after looking at the alternatives, I'm now actively searching for a used, but well kept Nissan Xterra Pro-4X. It seems like the perfect fit, with a NA 4.0L V6 (available with a 6 speed manual with clutch start override button) and standard equipment including a rear locker, Bilstien shocks, built in off-road and fog lights, roof rack, full gauges including volt meter and oil pressure, and a 9 speaker Rockford-Fosgate stereo with 6 CD changer. It even has some things I wasn't going to get with the Bronco, like a good sized cargo area with rear seats that fold perfectly flat. And I could have one this week! Maybe in a few years I can find a nice Squatched Bronco coming off lease....

And the camper kit is pretty cool, too!

It's not the name or make of your vehicle that counts. It is what you do with it and how it gets you closer to the places and experiences that define the quality of our rather short life on this planet. So pleeaaasssse, drive it like you stole it and never, never look back-it's all good sir!

Great purchase. I have a 2010 Xterra Off Road with 170,000 miles now driven primarily by my 2 teenagers on the streets of DC . Basically indestructible.

Beautiful choice, but really too bad you had to settle for the scum tranny instead of the elite six speed.
