I’ve heard stories about people losing the painted caps. I have mine off and on regularly as I don’t always run my roof rack. So after pulling the roof rack today, I made a “Safety Line” this way I can at least not lose the caps.
I drilled a small hole in the base and ra

The only problem I can see with that is what is the tethered cap going to do at 70 mph? Is it going to flop around hitting the windshield and the header panel or is it going to just flop back and lay on the top?

It's possible that tethering the cap may do more harm than good.

Agreed. I think some strategically glued on, very strong mini magnets are just the ticket.

JC Whitney used to have a similar idea to keep from losing hubcaps, it was a cable that one end was connected to a lug nut and the other connected to the hubcap. I couldn't believe that whoever designed it could not figure out what would happen if the hubcap came off.

I don’t see how it flopping around for the few minutes as I pull over would be worse than buying a new one and having to get it painted 🤷‍♂️.

All depends on how much damage it does flopping around, never know it may just flop back and be fine. I wouldn't want to be the first to try it though.

No way the plastic cap hurts the windshield or hard top. They are $25 plus what ever it cost to paint. So I would think $50 total.

You would be surprised at how much damage a piece of plastic flapping around could do. Time will tell. I'm more worried about the paint on the windshield surround.

Interesting idea. I don’t have my 2Door yet so I have not had the opportunity to interact with these caps. That said I’m aware that they come off too easily and some folks have lost them. I was thinking a dab of silicone may help keep it in place, and still be removable if needed.

Simple solution.... Remove the caps, install a light bar. Then head to the wilderness and enjoy!!!

Oh wait.... you could be a 4 door and only cruise the mall! Lol

Haha I was at the mall today with my 4 door. Took my daughter to get milkshakes and fries.

Team car seats! 💪🏻
