I like the idea and I'm wondering if I can fit my portable compressor in that same spot and make an aluminum cover in lieu of the oem plastic cover? It's been awhile since we've had a new product release from Mabett, but here's an interesting one...
Tailgate Air Compressor
Not too bad a price for $300.
Now, I'm no expert on this stuff, so my questions are, and hopefully "Mabett" chimes in, compared to the IAG model that uses the Viair 400, listed at 2.3CFM... How does that compare to 70LPM? And does the 1 gallon tank with the IAG help? Could one be added to this Mabett version?
Thoughts?
Beautiful thing about it, the tailgate is aluminum! These tailgate-compressor mounts are clever solutions but I'd prefer the housings be made of aluminum over steel as a better heat sink to get all of that heat out of the enclosure if they aren't going to use an active fan.
Ha. Fair point.Beautiful thing about it, the tailgate is aluminum!![]()
In our testing with the Viair compressor, the tailgate only got a few degrees hotter than the metal that was in the sun alone. We tested in 95F+ heat outdoors in the direct sun as a torture test. It was pretty brutal, filling all four 37's at the same time back to back a minimum of 5 times. Not sure what suffered more, the compressor or the intern doing the testHa. Fair point.
It received a 2 star rating on Amazon, but no actual review...So I'm just curious, has anyone actually bit the bullet and picked up this Mabett compressor? Would love to hear some actual real-world reviews. I'm certainly not expecting alot but again, just curious.
Fact is, you should be concerned. This is what I found after running for 45 minutes to fill up 4 tiresFor those concerned about using the factory 12v plug to power these devices...

This is why I installed the IAG tailgate compressor, was outta space with 2 dogs and gear. Install was a breeze. Most time consuming part of the install was popping the plastic channel/trim covers and running the heavy gage wire to the battery. Took me about an hour but I don’t have to worry about overloading existing wiring. Doesn’t put out like a dual ARB, but WAY cheaper and not sitting in my engine compartment with all that heat. I’ll air up one of my 37” and time how long it takes and measure the heat at the tailgate Molly panel. Not sure about the Mabett, but the IAG is solid.Yea, it's been working for me for years. When it was in my truck I didn't mind it as much because it wasn't taking up that much real estate, but space in the Bronco is more limited -that's my biggest issue.
I'm always looking for ways to store everything when it comes to the Bronco.
It's only not an air compressor because it doesn't have a tank. Most often if theres a big price diff its for a reason, if you are serious about having air for real needs i would consider reliable sources as a must
i wud be wary careful. Its listed as a air pump , not the same thing as a air compressor
An air pump is designed to pump air into or out of a device. It creates air pressure, but not to the point of compressing the air. Air compressors, on the other hand, operate by reducing air volume and creating what is known as compressed air,It's only not an air compressor because it doesn't have a tank.
Yeah...no. If you create pressure, you compressed the air.An air pump is designed to pump air into or out of a device. It creates air pressure, but not to the point of compressing the air.
