I never really sit there with my hood open and the motor running. Had just gotten back from some dune riding at the beach and had the hood popped while I was blowing sand out of the interior with the hose from my air compressor. Before I closed the hood I noticed this sound....it sounds.....plastic-y (that's a word right?)

Anybody have an idea of what it is....it might be normal for all I know. FWIW I don't get the cam phaser noise on cold start.

Well mine does not sound like that, maybe you got some sand in your alternator or one of your belt pulleys

I'm sure that's quite possible. I have about a 4 hour drive home tomorrow, maybe that will dislodge some sand.
