Opening an app on my iPhone flips audio to CarPlay

Curious if I'm the only one who's found that opening a certain app on my iPhone causes the audio system source to switch from whatever was playing (for example AM radio) to CarPlay. It will then automatically start playing the last open audio from my iPhone.

For example, if the last thing I listened to on my phone was a podcast, then opening (don't laugh) Pokemon Go (or even swiping past Pokemon Go) causes the audio system to flip to CarPlay, which then picks up where I left off in that podcast. Even if the podcast app is fully closed. It will do this even if I"m already listening to CarPlay in my Bronco. It will switch to the last thing I listened to on my iPhone.

I'm connected wirelessly using the most recent version of all software. The iPhone is a 12 Pro Max. I have 245 apps on my phone and the only one that does this is Pokemon Go.

Haven’t experienced this, but I don’t play Pokémon Go. Especially not when I’m DRIVING A FREAKING CAR!

All kidding aside is it because the App has sound and is taking over the radio like you started playing music?

this is more of a “parked in the car line” problem, not a driving problem.

it may be a sound issue, but I have the sound turned off in the app.

It also interrupts SXM when sending a message in Snapchat. there is a little pop sound effect that is the culprit.

Yup. Happens on all our cars with Car Play...not just the Bronco. It's a Car Play thing. Any iPhone app that can play a video or audio will override the car's audio if the phone is connected to the car with Car Play and you access that particular app. Annoying.
