I have a kid so similar. There is just something with the wrangler that by the time I installed XG bags and a couple of wheel well bags, I was able to store all of my tools and recovery gear. Which left the entire cargo space open for the fridg3, food, camping gear.

With the Bronco, no such side storage really yet and so I have to find room for it all. I think I may have a handle on most of it, but I'm probably going to have to drop some $ on that attic tray to give me a place for recovery gear.
I almost bought the attic tray but I have the Raptor and it has the extra brace so it will not fit. Glad I didn't buy it. the floor drawer from ford seems like it would be perfect for all my tools and recovery gear. That leaves everything else open in theory anyway. I haven't seen one in person so I dont know how much room it takes up. I had the decked system in my Tacoma and I had mixed feelings about it.

GOAT fab just came out with a tray that may be an alternative as well.

For me, I pulled out all of my gear and started measuring. Ironically 8 in seems to be the sweet spot. Meeting things like my power station, my air compressor, my bottle jack, etc are all 8".

The problem with that is that things like the Ford security drawer (And basically every drawer that I found) won't fit any of that.

I just ordered up some aluminum extrusion and am going to build something for starts and then go from there.... we'll see!

What about the ARB drawer? Expensive, but looks very well designed, and has small top-access drawers on the side, too.

Based on those, it sounds like it might work. Unfortunately it's too rich for my blood, and it's made out of wood which is heavy (106 lbs)

Which reminds me, GVWR It's just too low on these Broncos. I was doing some calculations last night, and just to keep it simple, I only get 1,000lbs to play with. Armor up the Bronco and that uses half. Toss on a RTT and there goes another 100.

Basically, You're almost guaranteed to be over GVWR on a trip

💯 Agree! And if you have a family & dog it's impossible!

Here is what my calculations look like:
Curb Weight (CW) - 4997 lbs
GVWR - 6180 lbs
Max Payload - 6180-4997=1183 lbs
Family 160+120+150+110+100=640 lbs
Cargo/Acc. Limit 1183-640=543 lbs

That's 543 pounds without any accessories or gear. We have to take 2 vehicles or get a trailer.

So it came out perfect. Exactly what my testing had proven. Eventually I'll probably post in another thread all the details and parts list etc.

I bought everything from TNutz... So much cheaper than anywhere else. I ended up doing a little bit of trial and error, and way overbuilt it, so it cost me a little bit more but even at that I'm around $300 (not counting the fridge slider)

The only thing I would have wanted to do different, is the paneling. I really wanted to use plastic, but the slot size just so happened to be perfect for two of those pegboards so I went with it because it was cheaper and easily accessible at the time.

Added the PV attic brackets and my ghetto shelf to keep the price down...now I'm done :)

I have the same med bag 🤣 I just tucked it in between the roll bar and glass. Slides in perfect. Nice job by the way.

Has anyone built an amazing Bronco overland vehicle? please share your build and what you like the most and what you don't like, would do again. This is the route I would like to go when mine arrives later this month. Fingers crossed.
Excuse all the photos but thought the details may help. Since receiving my Bronco in May 2022 I’ve taken the kids camping a handful of times and learned lessons after every trip and have made changes/additions. We tend to avoid the Koa type camping and prefer off the grid BLM type camping.

Here are a few details on parts/improvements:
Iceco JP pro 40 cooler/freezer
Iceco slide
OEM roof rack
Badass tents rear roof rack and accessory rack
Rotopax water container
Badass Rugged tent
Badass tire accessory rack (plan to mount the ignik propane growler for camping trips)
Thule transporter Combi hitch box
Kuat pivot swing away rack adapter- driver side
Rough country lights installed in trunk area
Jcr off-road Molle Panels
Jcr fire extinguisher roll bar mount
Rough Country tailgate reinforcement

Have a quick update on a custom cabinet I had built by OverLander WoodWorks Inc. In Norwalk, CA.
On IG: overlanderwoodworks
My goal was to have a cabinet that allowed me to store all the miscellaneous gear that I wasn't keeping readily available on molle panels. I also wanted a cabinet that would be a similar height to my fridge so I could store longer bags on top of both the cabinet and cooler. Irwin at overlander woodworks consulted with me to build a cabinet that fit all my gear and also provided a slide out table. The cabinets came with a key to lock it up. The cabinet is all wood and carpeted on the outside. Inside the drawer he built dividers. The box and table weigh about 60lbs empty.
I really like the clean look and functionality. If you're local to Southern Cal, check them out.
