I was thinking about painting my muffler black since you can see it from the back. The silver clashes with the rest of the color. I know, OCD.

The question I have, has anyone painted their muffler, and if so, what type of paint/primer should I use?

Hi-temp black will work.
Grill/BBQ black off the shelf seems to work just fine.
They make special "header paint" if you absolutely wanted to go that route.
But the spray-can stuff made for it works just fine.
Touch up as needed easily enough.

Auto stores, Wal-Mart, Lowes all sell rattle can engine paint which is high heat tolerant.

Also... don't paint over the condensation drain hole... unless you want a really big rusty hole.

You can ask my brother what happens when you paint over that drain hole, he has first-hand experience. May also get angry when asked, so uhh... ask from a distance. ;)

Where is it located? Do you have a picture of it? Iā€™m sure itā€™s obvious but Iā€™m not around my vehicle.

Definitely keep the can for touchups. I put the Ford Performance exhaust with the black chrome tips on mine and it's loud enough that the paint inside the tips is chipping

Jeremy Clarkson regularly paints the exhaust on cars during the Top Gear challenges, it's sort of his "thing".

Not sure that speaks for long term viability though.

So go the Clarkson route and color-match, or follow what @broadicustomworks said above.

https://shop.kgcoatings.com/kg/ This is who you want to call! Family owned Texas company and VERY good people. They will work with you on any custom color too! I have used them for years when it comes to my firearms. They make some specialty exhaust paint and primers.

I used a hi-temp matte black on my old 07 GT/CS. I didn't bother top part of the mufflers since its hidden by the body. It looked great with the black bodywork.

if the muffler is galvanized then good luck on getting anything to stick for very long. aluminumized or stainless steel then use high temp primer and bbq grill paint
