I had a humming noise coming from the rear of my Bronco when driving between 30-45mph (driving over 45 mph the tire noise drowned it out). I have a 2022 Outer Banks Non-SAS 2.7L automatic with 74k miles. I never tow or go off roading with, it is basically a pavement princess.
Dealership told me the rear differential was shot and needed replacing, but after more inspection now I need to replace the whole rear end. This has me concerned about build quality. How could a Bronco that is a highway cruiser blow a rear end??? Imagine if I was to go off roading or tow some something!!

Anyone else have this problem? I have read on here that rear differential failure has been an issue but no recall. Luckily I have an extended warranty to cover this, but not sure if I will keep this long term after warranty. This was my dream vehicle but not sure it will hold up over time, considering my 1988 Bronco II never had any problems mechanically.

It not a Ford rear axle it’s a Dana, and Jeeps use the same axle (maybe other manufacturers also) Most never have a problem but there is a small percentage that do.
There’s at least one thread on here that highly recommends changing all the differential fluids and transfer case fluids early.

Thank you Fordified1 for the clarification and I did see that thread. Unfortunately I bought my Bronco in 2022 before people started talking about this. I do stay on top of my maintenance and change all my fluids early. Hopefully this is just a fluke with the rear end and my Bronco stay strong šŸ¤žšŸ»

I have a 2021 OBX with the 4.27 axles and rear locker, so different machinery. It's all good, and I do alot of beach driving. If you're looking for perspective, I think you may be over-reacting. The way I would look at it is, "Ford is giving me a new rear end while it still has a warranty! How cool!"

No reason this car won't last, unless you've had other issues. I have 85,000 on mine, and I'll be keeping mine at least another few years.

I have the 4.27 with locking diff and I am glad it is being fully replaced. Had a few other issues but I don’t plan on getting rid of my Bronco, just crossing my fingers… lol

It’s easier for the dealer (and probably better and cheaper for you) to just replace the whole rear end rather than trying to rebuild a failed differential.

The part is a bit more money, but drastically less labor, and it all comes factory assembled. Just 6 bolts, add oil, and plug in the ABS sensors.

Good to know you have the 4.27! I'll keep an eye on mine!
