Holy hell. I've seen this happen in person and it made the engine run really hot, but it didn't blow through the exhaust!

The temp fix:

Man, you’re lucky that didn’t burn your truck down or explode the battery and get acid everywhere. Unfortunately I’ve seen similar sloppy electrical work on Broncos that have come into our dealership service department. Nothing quite this serious, but sloppy.

Hi all,

I was driving to pick some things up from the store and when I got back into my Bronco and started driving home I noticed the engine sounded funny. Kind of like a clacking sound when accelerating.

When I pulled into the garage I noticed a little white smoke coming from the driver side of the engine bay.

I just had new wheels and tires put on 2 days ago. I went up to 37’s. The mods I am running are a pulsar xt, Eibach stage 2 lift, and icon UCA’s.

I have attached a video for the sound. Anyone with more experience able to tell what’s going on? I think I might need to take a trip to the dealer but not sure I should be driving it with the smoke coming out briefly.

Sounds like and exhaust manifold gasket blown to me...

Isn’t that exhaust pipe metal? How did an electrical short blow out that pipe?
Welding 101. Special stick rods are available for cutting metal. Electric short certainly could create a flame front

Yes I am very fortunate this wasn’t worse. $150 to emergency weld on some metal and about $60 to replace the part.

It’s an EGR exhaust tube. Here is the part number if anyone ever needs it:

I can get the part number for you if you need but I need you to message me your VIN number to make sure you get everything you need for it. I am a Ford tech and can get it pretty quickly
