Smokin' 7MT's at the Off-Roadeo.

Off-Roadeo no longer provides MT's because non-3pedal drivers were burning up clutches (Austin, anyway).
I want to test drive a Manual Trans Bronco, 7MT vs 10AT.
I Did Off-Roadeo in Austin, Nov 2021. Drove a 2Dr Wildtrak Sas (with a soft-top).
IF YOU HAVE NOT DONE THIS>>> GO. DO. NOW. It was a BLAST. More than 6 hours of seat time.

I am 80% sure I want the MT, based on fun factor alone.
ANY TEXANS ABLE TO TEST DRIVE A MT?? I'm in Houston. Dealer (Planet Ford) can't find a demo unit.

Edit: I did in fact test drive the 7MT Badlands at Maxwell Ford in Austin. The sales guy said this was the first time someone had tested the 7MT. And it was available for Feb 10th delivery, at +$20k ADM

I did some checking earlier on 7MT availability at the off rodeos and it's the primary reason I'm not interested in going, don't want to drive an auto.

Interesting that they put the soft top on that one.

Everyone says they can drive stick until they are scared shitless while in rock garden .....in way over their heads in what they are ready for...... People got scared in the woods at offrodeo and gave up. which really screws a train going down a one direction one lane trail with not enough spare staff to just hop in and drive that bronco out.

I drove an automatic but I still had fun.

I got to test drive a manual badlands at one of the traveling test drive events. If one of those pops up near you maybe you can test drive one. I am glad I went with the manual.

Also the offrodeo is worthwhile even with an auto...

I test drive a 7MT every day. Love it.

As for your Off-Roadeo conundrum. Just go. I wasn't able to drive a manual either but my wife and I had so much fun, it was worth it.

there's a mode for bypassing the clutch start lockout.
of course, it's documented in the electronic manual.

unfortunately, my bronco won't be scheduled until next MY, but look on p159 of the 2021 owner's manual pdf available here at b6g. the search term is "start in gear"

I love the 7mt in mine.

I've driven a lot of manuals and while the 7mt is pretty good, however I will say the following... the clutch feels really really light and kind of vague for me, might be too used to a pucked racing clutch. The shifter feels decent for a linkage type. The only think I really don't like about it is if you're in crawl, and you try to grab 1st it can be easy to miss without coming to a complete stop and then going into first. I can be pretty quick and I put it in 3rd every time until I just resigned myself to stopping before grabbing 1st. Not sure if it's done kind of lockout or something, but it isn't convenient. It's also not a big deal.

For serious crawling, it's really hard to beat an auto though. Lack of experience with nugs driving is why those clutches aren't lasting. It's very easy if you're even marginally competent. If my 9 had old could reach the pedals and see out, he'd have it down in 5 minutes
