Got back down under there tonight. There was not enough fluid that I could smell what it was but the fact that I couldn't smell it makes me wonder if it's not gear oil. I also noticed there was a tiny bit at the clamp where the tie rod boot meets the steering rack, but also there was some just above that on the rack itself which makes me think a drip from above. I checked all around, including what I could see directly above, as well as CV/axle and boots and no sign of a leak or spray.

I used a q-tip and paper towel and just wiped everything down to clean and dry. I will check back in a couple of weeks and see if there is anything back in the same spot.

As an update I am happy to report that after a few weeks of driving I do not see any new fluid, so I am chalking this up to gear oil that dripped during my front diff fluid change.

Awesome, do you mind changing the title to have solved at the end now?

We could just spam the thread with variations of “solved” and people will eventually get the idea
