First off, i know the benifits and the why you should tune it. i tuned the standalone in my mustang back in the day (PMS system for fox mustangs) i tuned my WRX with help from some cool guys on fast wrx.com. but I don't care about all the performance for the bronco. i have the ninja now if i wanna go be fast boy. what i do want though is to be able to hear the turrbos. So, if i put on Injens CAI and charges pipes can the stock programming handle that? if it's going to hurt the motor I'll wait but if it will run fine but not optimal then what ever i'll get the pipes first. then tune later if i feel i need more.

that's kind of what I've been seeing. the stock ECU seams to be very tolerant of mods. I heard thats its speed density not MAF based, i wonder if thats why? thanks or the help

Having had a bunch of tuned Subaru STis over the years I’ve become used to not doing ANY mods without tuning except maybe a catback. Anything that affects cooling or fueling is no go and probably see very little gains without a tune anyway. I have the FP tune on my 2.3 7Mt with a pedal commander and it’s pretty peppy. I personally wouldn’t put parts on my Bronco without an appropriate tune. I think you can do that with the 2.7 though. ECU swap, custom tuning.

One big advantage the bronco has over the subaru and a lot of others is its a speed density system not mass air. I haven't had a look in the broncos ECU (prob never will) but if its set up correctly you should be able to remove the intake (don't do that) and it should be fine.
did you tune the STI you're self? i actually really enjoyed tuning the WRX ecu. the IAM (ignition advance multiplier ) made it really easy. I don't remember the number but it had a max value i think it was 30? you just make sure the tune holds that max value all the time and you're good
