Before I screw up here, the captured nuts for the tailgate hinge…are they solid plates, one for the top two bolts and one for the bottom?

I’m not sure what you’re up to but they won’t fall into the door if that’s what you’re concerned about.

When I installed my Barricade tailgate support I had the tailgate laying flat and he no problem. I’m certain though that the plates are captive inside the door skin. There’s many videos of those plate style tailgate reinforcements being installed with the door still on the bronco so it shouldnt be an issue.

I’m not 100% certain but I seem to remember you are right - a thin rib that holds two nuts - one for top and one for bottom.

It can pop out and drop inside the tailgate, but when I worked on mine they had some float but didn't move too much

Some people have a lighter touch than others.

Didn't want to take a chance of them dropping inside the tailgate. Left the door on , but got 4 cheap 6" threaded rods. when I took the first door bolt out I put in the rod. This way the captive part can't fall in the door's inside. The rods also helped me line up my new M2M door reinforcement bracket. Reverse the process (one rod out one bolt in). This was a cheap and easy to have PEACE of MIND.

Oh yes the will! They are held on with chewing gum! Har yo drill a hole in the door to grab it out it of there, and put it in the right position,
