Yep, it was worth a shot. Unfortunately, it turns out the bottom part of the cavity is blocked by a plastic insert, and there's a piece of metal that runs through the door so you can't go over the top of it. The plastic doesn't seem to be removable.Ya it does. Been a while don’t remember exactly but I got it off pretty easy. Worth a shot to see if it’s reachable.
As you said, that trim piece came off pretty easily, though the little top tab snapped off when I reinserted it. I'm guessing the cold weather didn't help. At least it doesn't seem critical in holding the trim piece in place.
As for the missing piece, I'll have to scour parts online to find some u-channel that will substitute, I think. I've already come across some on Amazon that may fit the bill.
Or I may give up on this altogether and get a different table. This one's okay, but I'm beginning to wonder if it's worth drilling into my tailgate for. Plus, I'm not exactly having the best luck so far. Lol.
