This isn't really an offroading spot but just so cool to see in person and a great drive with the top off. There's plenty to do just outside of town but if you're passing through I'd give it a stop. Just a heads up not a ton of parking and no restrooms. Also lots of bikers, motorcycles and other vehicles carving up the winding roads.

I'm just down the hill and have done both. The line at Kohnen is long for a good reason and the train museum is dope too. Somehow I've been coming here for years and never bothered to see the loop in person

I've only done part of it (in the dark 30 years ago) but it's a fun easy cruise. Good to see some locals it looks like. I'm in Bakersfield.

Thanks for the tips OP. When my Bronco arrives in a few weeks I will check it out. Seems like my wife would like this type of trip. Mild off roading, scenic, lunch and a museum... Ha

Pretty cool that you did see a train there. Adds value!

Had mine about a month now, also in Bakersfield. I was at the Tehachapi loop a couple months ago.

I went there a couple of times twenty years ago when I was working in Los Angeles. It was neat to see the trains crossing over themselves on the loop and the drive through the High Desert.

Next to the Kern River, off of 178 before Lake Isabella. Can't remember the name of the spot, it's over that bridge that looks like it goes nowhere.
