Morning, I bought the tonneau for the cargo area & been playing around with how to mount a channel or use velcro on tailgate to hold the cover rather than the straps traveling down to bottom of the tailgate & rubbing the paint, let alone that looks like crap. Anyone had or have ideas? I'm still playing a around with a few yet.
Thanks
I was remembering like back in the day of how we mounted tops to windshields of Jeeps.

I know there was a thread on this in the past cant remember what the solution was. Cant remember if they did something magnetic or just went with the velcro. My search did not turn anything up but I know its definitely in the =forum somewhere.

Thanks. I couldn't find anything either when I searched. I magnet strip sewn in would be an idea as well.

Home Depot suction cups and hot glue. Pop the metal hanger off the suction cup, unthread the straps from the tonneau cover, make sure to get the hot glue into the groove where the metal hook used to be, attach cups to the cover in 4 spots (2 each side) WAIT for glue to cool off before actually using them to secure cover .

This was not my original idea - someone on B6G posted it initially and it works great!

Thanks for info & pics. How do they hold up in the heat & sun? What about at highway speed? Looks like a simple solution. 👍🏼

Suction cups did not work well for me. Ended up super gluing neodymium disc magnets to the cover, and then attaching ceramic disk magnets to the vehicle with 3m mounting tape. (2 neodymium were too strong, 2 ceramic too weak). Did this in 4 spots and am finally happy, they just pop off when opening tailgate, and can throw cover up in air after closing and they all self attach and stay put.

I ordered some magnets that will be here Sat & I also orded suction cups. My plan was/ is to fold bottom of the Tonneau over an inch or 1 1/2 & sew a channel then slide the magnet in. Then the tape on backing will help hold it in place then sew between each one into a pocket so they won't slide all over. First gonna test with 3M tape....lol

Only had it on a few weeks - one of the first suction cups I did had come loose (heatwave in NY) and I was not very diligent in ensuring the glue got in and around the groove of the suction cup. also came to find out that ANY sort of alcohol based cleaner accidentally sprayed on the glue will essentially negate all holding properties of said glue (learned that with my paintless dent removal kit) Even if it doesn't last - it's still safer than those straps across the paint and attached to the edge of the door.

Interested. So what did you end up using and where? Thanks in advance!

Please post how your solution worked. Thinking of doing this also. How many magnets did you use and where?
