@flip & @Ducati1098 - any idea when the pre-wire was added on the assembly line? Mine is an 08/16/23 build and I have the harness, module, and hitch in the box and was wondering if I had to splice or not. I have the Lumen kit.

As far as I know this just started for MY24. So I don’t believe yours would be prewired.

My understanding as well.

BUT, should be easy to verify. Connector for the wiring harness is behind the bumper and a shield on the driver side. If it's there, you're in luck. Screenshot from the instructions @flip posted:

I'll check on that one, but was more concerned about having to insert pins at the front drivers fender wiring.

Thanks guys.

Does anyone know if this part number (based on the instructions provided) includes the hitch, noted as item a, when you order it or if it’s JUST the electronic components and you have to buy the hitch receiver separately?

No splicing for 2023, you will have to re pin though. It's not that big of a deal for a 23.

It comes with everything listed in the instructions.

sick, last question, can I do the activation in FORScan or does it need to be through FDRS? The guy at the dealership has been little help, I asked him if he could get me that part number and his response was ‘is this a Ford product?’

I’m not sure if forscan would be able to do this or not. I work at a dealership so I rarely use forscan for programming. My best guess would be that it can’t and FDRS is required.

I have a 2024 Bronco Outer Banks. I needed a trailer hitch for bike rack and ball for small trailer. I ordered the hitch off amazon and got the one with the bracket for 4 pin/ 7 pin. When i went to install the hitch i found the pre-wiring of the trailer harness. Bought a 7 pin /4 pin connector off etrailer and installed it. I tested with a volt meter and found the only hot wire was the running lights. No turn signals and no brakes. Not sure how that is even working. I removed the connector and tested directly off the ford wiring - same thing. After more research on the forums and google discovered that I need the Trailer controller module to get all the lights working. Item number 1 below. That's on order. The ford dealer said i needed the trailer brake controller instead - which i don't need. We have an RV to flat tow the Bronco and won't be pulling anything bigger than a u-haul once in a while which either doesn't have brakes or uses surge brakes. My understanding is the brake controller module would only be needed for trailers with electric brakes. Hopefully the trailer controller module with fix the lights issue along with some ForScan changes previously identified in some other posts.

Copied from earlier in this post (page 2)
- Handles all trailer lighting.
- Handles trailer battery charging.
- Handles any interaction with a trailer brake controller.
- Detects when a trailer is connected and informs the rest of the Bronco.

I just installed the Ford tow package for my 24 Badlands this past weekend. I was able to do the activation with Forscan. DTC check shows no errors or codes now. I did have to clear codes and and reboot to eliminate some errors. I have not been able to test at the trailer connector yet but it seems right so far.

Many people have done it with Forscan on this Forum and there is a lot of advice on how to do it.

I ended up installing and a dealer activated the module and cleared the codes on it afterward. Hooked a trailer up and all good.

Was the module they activated the “trailer brake controller module”? I’m having problems getting mine to work as well and my Ford dealership doesn’t seem to understand what needs to be done.

Alright I actually dug into the documentation on the service manual.

The Trailer Tow module on the Bronco has four functions:

- Handles all trailer lighting.
- Handles trailer battery charging.
- Handles any interaction with a trailer brake controller.
- Detects when a trailer is connected and informs the rest of the Bronco.

It does NOT handle trailer sway control. Trailer sway control is handled by the ABS module—same module responsible for the GOAT modes, traction control, etc. That module is obviously on all Broncos, which is why Ford says trailer sway control is a standard feature.

When you install the Trailer module and complete the FDRS configuration steps, the user gains the ability to turn on/off trailer sway control in the Sync screen as well as perform a few other functions such as trailer light check procedures.

Without the Trailer module, it seems as though Trailer sway control is just permanently on. It doesn't say why, but presumably the reason why is because the Bronco can't tell if a trailer is actually connected or not without the Trailer module. So I guess it simply defaults to "On", and the ABS module handles it like any other stability control event.
I had my dealer send a ford mobile tech out yesterday, to activate my trailer control module that I self installed. I looked into the trailer tow settings and I am not seeing trailer sway control as an option at all. Trailer light test feature is there, but no TSC. I am going. To go buy a trailer light test adapter today to make sure they actually activated it properly. I do now have the yellow dotted lines appearing on either side of my vehicle in 360 camera view now. Which appear to be some sort of guidance feature that wasn’t there before.
