Wonder why it was tested, 77 was the last year of the EB and even then it was extended out because the G2 was originally scheduled to launch in '74.

Ford wanted to replace the M151A2 Mutt and contemplated the savings of using a commercial-based product.
The Army tested the Dodge Ramcharger, Chevrolet Blazer, CJ-5, and Scout II.

The Army did buy the Blazer (M1009) and K20 pickup (M1008), after initially buying Dodge 3/4-ton 4x4 pickups (M880).

Note: The Army did buy some Scouts, from the 800 series to the Scout II for bases, at least in the US.

Wasn't Scout made by Internaional? From what I know this isn't exactly a company well known for high quality vehicles. Was the Scout an exception?
International Harvester had excellent quality and design. I would take an International dozer over a CAT any day. Their farm tractors were legendary. And trucks, the cab-over-engine TranStar and TranStar II hauled America, while the LoadStar carried us to school.

Think how much greater, "The Great Place," would be if they had stuck with Broncos...

Internationals were simple and cheap. Low technology = affordable reliability.

Totally agree. The only issue with the Scout was the same issue everything had back then. Rust. In Upstate NY there was 3 scouts for every Bronco.
