Thought I'd install perch collars today on my 24 BL Sas but I can't seem to get the control arm to release the ball joint. Been whacking it pretty hard, both hanging free and on the jack stand. The book shows a special tool, 204-592. Before I go there does anyone have any tips.? Much appreciated.

I'm guessing the knuckle is going to be worse...

I couldn’t get mine out either. I ended up just going to the LCAs instead (was doing suspension so needed to get aligned anyway), but thought real hard about getting a joint puller

thx. I'll let it soak in WD-40 for a while first. Probably will need a puller

Just take a BFH (big f*** hammer) and give it a smack. It takes quite a big smack to release it, but it will go. You need a decent size hammer like a 5 lb. sledge.

I got it. WD-40 overnight and a violent swing with the 2-1/2 lb hammer. Thanks to all for the tips. Curiously the axle wasn't stuck at all. :)

Probably saw what you did to the poor ball joint and decided to cooperate

I just added collars a week or so ago. I marked the cam bolts for position on the lower arms and pulled those two bolts. No worry about pulling the axle apart and didnt need to touch the ball joints.

A little follow-up. Don't mash the brake with the caliper off. I was wanting to turn to full lock to make some room. Muscle memory took over when I jumped in to turn the wheel. Blew up the caliper and got about a gallon of brake fluid on the floor. Rookie mistake.
