Has anyone had an issue running a MagSafe phone charger off their dash USB port?

I got a new MagSafe charger with a cooling fan and it doesn’t work when plugged into my dash USB ports nor does it work when plugged into the console USB ports. It did work using the cigarette lighter port located inside the center console arm rest. Because it did work there that tells me my USB ports are under powered.

Has anyone upgraded their USB ports? Looking for how to advise.

Thank you in advance.

More detail: I am running a Trackform mounting system and their new Qi2 MagSafe with cooling fan built in phone charger. Seems the Qi2 unit requires more power than the USB ports provide by default. I’d like to keep the charger and upgrade my ports. Has anyone upgraded their USB ports?

I have not, but I do plan on trying to power MagSafe phone chargers (no fan). I need to configure the phone holder first. I hope the USB-C ports will work!! I wonder what the existing USB-C port specs are in terms of voltage/current.

I run two Magsafe chargers with no issues. No fan though. They are on the 67 Designs Bronco rail.

I installed something similar to this one, replacing the factory part.

The Bronco’s USB-C ports are not labeled as “PD” ports, so they likely only provide the standard 5V, supporting up to 3A max for 15W max. You need a PD 2.0 or PD 3.0 port capable of 15V at 3A to get the required 45W for that charger+fan

From a different 6g post

Measured USB type A and type C with a few different cables with repeated results.
USB type A charging current 1.39A @ 5V
USB type C charging current 1.79A @ 5V

There is a power point located inside the center console - plug in a PD/high power USB adapter there and run your charger cable to it (there is a cutout in the console lid for running cables out with the lid closed)

I run the Tackform Qi2 magsafe charger with fan plugged into my console USB-C port (23 Baldands Lux) without issue. I started running the charger without fan, then upgraded to the fan version. Sometimes there is a short delay for the motors to grab the phone but it works fine

As far as I remember it was easy. Just pop up the center dash panel then remove and replace the factory part with the new one.
Definitely gonna try that this week. Thank you.

Spoke with Trackform today. We are going to work on a Bronco solution that will end up being part of a package. Seems they've received a few complaints about the new Qi2 cooling MagSafe charger. The Broncos don't have the cigarette lighter hole near the dash where you'd typically mount the Trackform system. On the Lux packages there is a USB port near the windshield in addition to the one below the A/C controls. They are both underpowered. The only way is to use the new Qi2 unit is to plug in the lighter adapter under the arm rest and get a wire long enough to go from there up to the dash. Yuck! So we are going to work together to get a solution that will work for the Broncos. IDK the timing. He needs to talk to his electrical engineer to make sure the solution is not only right but safe.
NOTE: The Qi2 unit needs 45W min to work properly.

Great news. Does is sound like they looking to adjust the charger requirements or develop a more powerful installed charge port to replace the stock one?

Based on my discussion I’d say, develop a more powerful charge port kit to replace the stock one.
