Curious if anyone has installed 2 radios in their vehicle, one for vhf and one for gmrs. If so, would love to see where you mounted each of them.

I have VHF/UHF installed under the steering column, head mounted on the dash, antenna mounted on the tailgate. GMRS handheld.

Thanks, Unfortunately the different run groups im interested in require hardwired radios, so cant use the hand-held option.

Can you run a GMRS antenna out to the A-pillar where where lights mount? Should be pretty short antenna and it's close to power.

This works for me. Everything is inside and no chance for leaks.

I use a Yaesu mounted radio with a Mars mod and it can access UHF/VHF and GMRS channels. No need to run two separate radios.
I did the same thing in 2 of our Broncos. Got the Yaesu FTM-400 with MARS mod installed behind the glovebox with Antennas mounted on A-Pillars beside ditch lights. They both work great so far.

Bad ass! My antenna is attached to a bracket on the spare so I had to run wires to the front for power and to the rear for the antenna. The radio is tucked underneath the passenger seat.

I have been thinking of adding speakers and routing them to an area where I can hear the audio better but been procrastinating this for a while now.

I need to know why. I'd find some new guys to run with. Sounds like an HOA.

My guess is it might have more to do with previous people not charging their radios before heading out on a group ride. I can say this from experience as I have two dead radios hanging on the back of the driver's chair.

Norcal and Socal Raptor runs use vhf, exo uses vhf.

4x4 Trails/Rock Crawling/Overlanding is GMRS

Thanks! Yeah, the audio on mine is OK, but I really need to mount an external speaker somewhere else. Just haven't gotten around to it. Really wish the mic had a speaker in it like the Midland GMRS radios do. That would be ideal for me.

I know that EXO requires at least a 50 Watt radio since they run in really remote areas. I think the handheld radios are usually in the 5-15 Watt range.

This is exactly why I installed the Yaesu Dual Band with MARS mod. I needed VHF for an EXO run, but also wanted UHF/GMRS to use when we take trips out West. Also didn't want to install 2 separate radios if I didn't have to.
